RX7 starts and runs for about 2 sec, then dies

Hi everyone, I am new to this site and I am still learning how to use it properly. I searched around for threads about this topic, and the only one I found didn't quite explain what fixed the problem.
Anyway, a little info about my car: It has been sitting for about two years without a hood under a carport, yet it was still exposed to some weather. I have started it about every two weeks and driven it two miles or so each time. I put a half tank of regular in it about 5-7 months ago and thats the gas I've been driving it on. Today, since I haven't gotten it to stay running, I put 3 gallons of fresh regular gas in the tank to see if it would help. If you have any questions feel free to ask, I would love to hear your opinions! Thanks

Profile lists an 88. But I agree that's important info to provide. Many won't bother to look it up.

If it starts, you have compression and spark. Since it only stays running a few seconds, it sounds like a fuel issue. Fuel pump is going out and weak, plugged fuel filter, dirty injectors or a combination of all three.

Jumper the fuel check connector to see if this makes any difference in how long the engine runs.

+1 for the fuel. Along with what SgtBlue and Satch said, perhaps running a bottle of Seafoam through might help as well. Good luck.

it can be fuel, so test it but I had the same problem once this winter. Engine flooded and impossible to start the engine (doesn't run more than 1-2 sec). I put some oil in the chambers throug the spark plugs holes and then start the engine by pulling the car with another 2nd gear and a "half-way on the throttle pedal" (I hope you understand what I mean :P ).
Doesn't work with an automatic gear.

Hey guys sorry to hijack this thread. I have a similar issue with my s5. It just shoots up to 3-4 then bogs out(hard sputters and some times backfires) then dies unless I keep the revs past 4k on the tach (which happened to not work on me last night) :/

..also check the AFM to make sure that the flapper is working inside it.
The S4 AFM has a tendency to corrode with Storage..Check for any foreign debris in it too, like rat ****.mouse nests or plain old Crud!.small animals like that spot.(been there..found it!)

Just to answer some of your questions, yes it was definitely the fuel pump..

do fuel pumps just go out like that? my car ran the hour before I did the fuel damper delete from banzai as mine was leaking and not fond of the whole $100 every couple years.
or could this be related to something else? its and 86 s4 na with emissions delete and stock ports and and tb mod but ran just fine before. does the starts for 2 or 3 seconds and sometimes more but it just dies as soon as I give it gas.

Sounds like a post AFM leak.

I have the same exact issue, did you ever find a fix?

Because it sat for ~2 years without a hood, the most likely issues are old fuel, vacuum leaks, and dirty sensors. Even with fresh gas added, the old fuel can still cause stalling. Exposure also makes cracked hoses, rodent damage, and a dirty MAF or throttle body very common.

Start with: drain/replace old fuel if possible, change the fuel filter, check all vacuum lines, and clean the MAF and throttle body.

Lmk if that helps
