Question: Basic mods for 2nd gen rx7
Hey guys, I just bought a 89 rx7 NA few days ago,
and I'm thinking about doing some modifications to make it faster. Any suggestions for basic mods? looking for something that wont cost a lot just to increase a few hp:egrin: If you are a FC owner, what are the mods you have on your car? Any advice would help:nod::nod: |
Intake and exhaust, porting, turbo (most hp for the amount of money you spend)

Mods: - Racing Beat catback exhaust and new rubber exhaust hangers - K&N cone filter (Installed by the previous owner. I would just have used the drop-in K&N replacement filter to avoid sucking hot air into the engine). - KYB AGX adjustable shocks/struts with Racing Beat springs - Optima Red Top battery with marine quick-disconnect ground cable - Falken Ziex ZE-912 tires (All-weather touring tire, performance is decent too) - Fumoto F-106 no-nipple oil drain valve from qwikvalve.com - Koyo all-aluminum radiator - Updated stereo surround and vents with 89-92 parts - Aftermarket stereo and antenna relay - Electrical re-grounded http://www.aaroncake.net/RX-7/grounding.htm Preventive: - New pulsation damper - Fuel injectors cleaned and "rebuilt" by witchhunter.com - Replaced scary old fuel hoses - New fuel filter - New oil filter pedestal O-rings - New radiator hoses - New fan belts - New wiper blades - New radiator fluid sensor - New coolant mixed with distilled water - New Mazda thermostat - New NGK spark plugs Fluids: - Castrol GTX engine oil with Mazda OEM filter - Red Line synthetic gear oil - ATE Super Blue brake fluid (Changed back and forth with Castrol GT LMA) |

Definitely do some porting since its na...but if you plan on goin turbo, leave the stock ports alone and add water injection, porting & turbo are for the same purposes, to force oxygen into the motor for more power so either or.
But goin turbo will def lead to more power & of course invest in the best exhaust parts to help the motor flow |
apexi intake and exhuast made a big difference on my buddy's fc but its a bit expensive

oh and don't forget about that cats. if they are clogged nothing will help it til they are removed or replaced
|
go turbo!

With just a simple cone filter and adaptor, Racing beat header and 2.5" single exhaust, AC delete I dyno'd my NA at 132hp and 130ft/lb to the wheels. Nothing rocket fast, but quickened it up for sure!
