Polyurethane mounts and torque dampers...
I was curious if anyone has any first hand experience with Polyurethane engine and tranny mounts, and also engine torque dampers. Mainly i was wanting to know if these things make a big difference and are worth the money. I've been through 3 pairs of regular engine/tranny mounts over the years. and does the torque brace eliminate the "shudder" feel i get from accelerating? Thanks.
im speaking from experience with my 88 z24 caviler, i had a shudder that was due to a broken engine mount during acceleration. i first replaced them with stock mounts but broke them a year later so i replaced all the mounts with poly about 5 years ago and love the mounts no probs worth every penny. i have solid mounts in my supra, for 2 years now, and just bought a set of solid for the fc.
i also put a torque link (a solid link not a damper) in the z24 about 2 1/2 years ago and it made a big difference. i have a friend with a 350z and he got a torque link and said the same, that it made a huge difference, he has stock mounts so did even more for him. and they are cheep at summitracing.com
I would do one or the other but both is a overkill since they basically do the same thing.
Good condition stock rubber motor mounts w/ an engine torque brace and good diff mounts provides a nice solid drivetrain that decreases excessive movement w/o adding any NVH
Poly motor mounts accomplishes the same thing as the engine torque brace but presents the risk of some NVH.
I've had both.
