new member new question

hi
just got a 93 rx7 fd3s and just wonder whats the major problem on these kind of cars? any input or advice will be appreciated thanks!!!

First of all, welcome. The problems are no different than the problems faced by other cars: age, poor maintenance, improper modification, etc. vacuum lines get brittle, solenoids fail, teenagers install eBay parts, the list goes on. I'd suggest browsing the 3rd gen section and simply read as many threads as you can to get a feel for what's going on and what other people are dealing with.

coolant keep coolant and oil in it at all time

^^^ how he said it! Keep it cool! And watch your compression! Because if you got a broken seal it can be very expansive for you.

Major Problems (unmodified/stock):

Heat build up in engine bay
Cracked/Split rubber: vacuum lines, coolant lines, air hoses, intercooler couplers
Plastic radiator end tanks waiting to burst open
Pillowball joints
Apex seal wear
Coolant seal wear

Major problems (modified):

everything listed above unless it has been changed for the better, plus
possible shoddy installation work (can lead to all kinds of mess)
possible cheap parts
possible overboosting (which leads to detonation and a blown motor)

*Read and learn to search in the 3rd Gen Section. After over a decade here I'm still doing this, and still learning.
*DO NOT INSTALL ANY PERFORMANCE MODIFICATIONS ON YOUR CAR FOR THE FIRST YEAR. Do regular maintenance and learn about the car. It is unforgiving to a novice. If you do this, you'll absolutely be surprised how much you've learned and how much your ambitions and goals for the car have changed since it's purchase.
*While you're in the NEW MEMBER TECHNICAL section, indicate in your signature what model RX7 (i.e. 93 FD) you own. That way you won't forget to indicate it when posting a question.
*Put something pertinent in the thread title to indicate the subject. People with answers shouldn't have to work to find out what you're asking. They may just skip it altogether. And once you leave this section patience shortens considerably from mods and other members too.
