is my clutch going out???

first off i have a 88 convertible and only on 2nd, 3rd and 5th gear it will just rev high and not engage until i let my foot off the gas a little then it will lock in, but that only works with 2nd and 3rd. as for 5th gear on the freeway it just revs high and keeps revving high when i try to go a little faster. I just want to get a second opinion on this so if you could tell me what you think that will be great. thank you

Yep, sounds like it's slipping.

TheProfessional 07-16-09 01:58 PM

yup its going better get that replaced =D

steldez 07-16-09 01:59 PM

dang that sucks...
thanks for the reply
how long do you think i got till it'll completely give? it kind of started happing more last week

usnzt84 07-16-09 08:49 PM

if you are easy with it and dont play around, it will last a few weeks

steldez 07-16-09 09:12 PM

ok cool i will be sure to try and make last as long as it can... thanks for the advice

Aaron Cake 07-17-09 09:06 AM

The longer you make it last, the more damage will be done to your flywheel. It's going to need to be resurfaced either way but if you overheat it with excessive slipping, it may begin to crack.

awesome thank you for the help, appreciate it

Any auto parts store will have a clutch. For an 88 'Vert, there's no reason to go with an upgraded unit.
