Mazda rx 7 fb 1984 s2 differential swap
 

Hey guys i got a mx 5 nb 10th anniversary torsen diff with the 3.6 gear ratio. And i was wondering if you can use the gears from the miata with a s2 rx7 diff housing? I have tried to find answers in other forums but everybody seems to be using his rx7 gears not the one from the miata diff.

It will not work in a Series 2 housing without a lot of work. The axles are the wrong spline, and the axle spline change also came with an axle bearing size change.

It looks like it may be possible to have axles made that have the 26 spline ends to take the '84-up axle spline (which includes all NA/NB Miata with the 7") but take the small bearings ('78-83 RX-7) This would run about $500-600 locally.

Do you mean it's possible with a series 1 differential housing and the axles but axles need a custom spline end to fit in the lsd from a mx 5 nb 10th anniversary.

Series 1 and 2 housings are effectively the same. In North America, they were the same for drum brake models. Disk brake Series 2 models used the same axles as Series 1 but the housing ends were different to accomodate the calipers.

I can't keep track of which markets were disk-only after 1980 and which ones had both. Mazda made different cars for every market.
