Gilmer belt info

Just wanted to hear some thoughts or pros and cons on a Gilmer belt set up.
Thanks

They look cool but I've heard they can cause the water pump and bearing to go bad sooner then expected.

Whatever you do, don't buy the Rotary Works kit. I have pictures in one of the Gilmer threads where a brand new one came apart within a day of install. They side guard is only crimped on in a single location.

Pros: Looks cool, some people like the noise, in high RPM applications they don't slip

Cons: Noise is incredibly loud. Pointless in street applications. Limits accessories usable on engine. Belts not available at every hardware store.

^Agree.
Gilmer belts = body kits. Expensive, some like 'em for the look, replaces something that doesn't need replacing, they're loud and obnoxious and only of any real theoretical use at high speed...if they stay on.

Hmm i think it is unusual. But i can't say good or bad noise.
Because you can't use power steering and ac. Also you can't mount the generator on the ac position. In spite of the higher wight.

Oh, there's also the thing about everyone assuming you have some monster supercharger from the noise, then the hood is opened and they see a 145 HP NA engine with a fancy belt.

The Gilmer setups I've seen in real life have actually been louder than the exhaust of the vehicle.

Wonder how much engine power is lost turning that big toothed belt?
