FD Front Brake issue
 

Hate making threads on stupid things but....new car so im sure theres something written buried somewhere that I just cant find

Have been noticing a loud click from the front wheels when changing directions (forward, reverse), also had a click on 1 wheel consistent with wheel speed, once per revolution

got under the car yesterday to do some maintenance thinking the brakes needed to be changed or rotors were warped

everything looked great, no lip on the rotors and pads had plenty of meat with even wearing.

I found that the pins allow the pad to move back and forth depending on wheel direction, the two retaining pins have some play. Is this normal or do I need to order a hardware kit?

also the pads did not have shims behind them, are those 100% required, if so Ill order a set.

can you make a video of this? hopefully the audio will come through well. If you have a mic you can secure somewhere near the wheel-well that would help (just be careful to secure wire AWAY from anything moving)

Make sure first that everything is tight. Brakes and suspension. I had terrible noises from my rear brake. Turned out I forgot to torque it down when I put it back on.

As for the pins, there should be retaining clips holding them in (see att)

Thats exactly how my caliper looks, no spring clips missing

but the two pad pins have significant play in the direction of rotation, allowing the pads to move forward and back depending on the wheel direction. is that normal? I can wiggle the pads with my hands.

Wonder if your pistons are sticking

wheels spin freely in both directions when the brake isnt depressed

all the issues are with the front calipers, ill get a video posted asap

maybe your pins are not all the way seated? the pins should be tight with the springs and clips in

the springs are in, but the pins are definitely loose, almost like they are too small in diameter. the ends have flathead screwdriver heads, are they supposed to be turned to put tension on the spring at the back of the caliper after being reinstalled?

Does it make the sound if you try and spin the wheel when its jacked in the air?

Checked all links, bushings, boots, and suspension components for wear?

had a performance shop give the car a once over. bushings are in good shape. in the videos im spinning the wheel in my hand while my wife steps on the brake and can replicate the sounds

did this car come with a shim kit that needs to be transferred when swapping pads? maybe the previous owner threw them out not realizing they were necessary?
