Engine seized?

I'm looking at buying a1989 convertible sitting for long time, but in otherwise decent shape. It has 100,300 miles. It has no real owner history, current owner got in a trade.

I'm a car guy - just never messed with Mazda rotary before. The car doesn't run or turn over -- and in cars like this I usually grab an AC or alternator belt and pull to slightly move the crank pulley.

I assume this would be true in rotary engine as well to determine if engine is seized? I've pulled on the belts as hard as I possibly can -- in both directions --- and the crank pulley has not moved one mm.

Just making sure there isn't something different about the 13b

Thanks!

Nah, it should turn over. could have an apex seal jammed somewhere, or maybe water seals failed and the engine is rusted out. you could try putting a wrench on it and rotating it backwards to see if you can un jam it. most likely the engine will need a teardown or just replaced.

the only way you are gonna get the engine to turn over(besides put power to the starter) is to take the fan off and put a 19mm socket to the main pulley.
If it does not spin then chances are you need a rebuild.

probably had a bad coolant seal. rusted internals from sitting.

pull the plugs, if they're rusty, boat anchor.

The ad read "no tools, don't know how to fix, must sell" & had for 4 months.. but interesting under the hood -- brand new oil on dipstick, new plugs, new oil filter, fresh (perfect) anti-freeze, and a brand new battery...

When I told him I thought the motor was seized, the response was "OK, Thanks"... Sure seemed like he already knew it.

I don't get why people have to do that.

PS: I passed. Thanks guys.
