Car trouble
:dunno: I have a 1989 Mazda RX-7 convertible, it chokes out
when I drive it on the road, the engine light comes on and then it runs awful |
Pull the trouble codes. I'm betting the metering oil pump has failed and the car has defaulted to limp mode.

car trouble
ok thanks! but also it does not do it on jack stands, only on the road,
I will get an obd 1 scanner and read the code. Thanks again :dunno: |

since It is an S5,NO..you cannot Disconnect the Oil Metering Pump.
It NEEDS to be connected and the ECU needs to SEE it Connected,(EVEN IF you decide to Premix. If you decide to Premix you have to Take the OMP out and Dangle it Somewhere in the engine bay..That or Go Standalone Computer.) you need to find a GOOD OMP...Post a Wanting to BUY in the Sec Gen FOR sale Section and also the "regional" For Sale sections of the Forum,Someone May have one.and it wil save you from Buying from the "stealership"..Good Luck.,sTYX. |
You don't pull the codes with a scanner, here is a how-to along with the codes and what they mean http://www.banzai-racing.com/FD_S5_error_codes.htm

can I just run 2 cycle in the gas and unplug it to see if that works, or will the ecm still shut me down.

Not sure what this has to do with jack stands, but OK.
An ODB1 scanner won't help you. No. The ECU must see a functional metering oil pump or it will go into limp mode. |
