88 Vert Turbo II swap

I have an N/A 88 Vert. I just picked up a new Turbo II motor and everything. And I want to know if I can use my original Trans? and what other small stuff I need?

RotaryRocket88 01-02-11 11:30 PM

Now would be a good time to read through the FAQ: https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...55#post5131155.

To answer the transmission question, sort of....If you don't intend on upgrading the engine much and keep the power level around 200HP, then it should be fine for a while. The NA transmission is far weaker than the TII transmission and while it will handle the power (and surprisingly, a lot more power) it also becomes FAR easier to break.

If you want to use the NA transmission, you'll need to swap the NA flywheel onto the turbo engine.

Krbyman 01-04-11 10:48 AM

Ok Cause I dont really plan on doing a whole lot to the motor. Mainly just wanted it as a daily driver for now. Cause My issue was I could not find a T II rear end.

Aaron Cake 01-04-11 03:17 PM

You can run the NA rear end if you have a custom driveshaft built to connect the TII transmission to the NA rear. Mazdatrix also sells them.

Krbyman 07-07-11 12:38 AM

Finally got started with the swap, the engine is out and I am cleaning up under the Hood, also put on a newer top, s5 tails, and I am looking for an exhaust....any ideas? I want to keep the dual style system,

Hard to beat the Racing Beat REV II exhaust for performance and sound.

Krbyman 07-07-11 07:04 PM

Thanks! I want some a little Throaty but nothing too ridiculous. I have enough issues with the boys in blue.

RotaryRocket88 07-07-11 08:09 PM

RB exhausts are pretty quiet at idle/low throttle, but they also sound great at WOT.

cab91089 07-08-11 01:05 PM

Thanks Man, Yeah its coming along the entire car now is primer black, and i figured now is the best time as any to tear it apart...hopefully it will be running again in the next week or so...Now if the weather would work for me...

Krbyman 07-09-11 12:06 AM

I do have a question. I really want to run without all that emission crap. I am just curious what I don't necessarily need.

cab91089 07-09-11 10:17 AM

No problem. Yeah summer is a great time to work on your 7, I was stuck favoring one of my 7s over the other but Im focused on my vert now. It looks like you have a cool project going on though, itll be awesome when its done. For emissions removal go to rotaryresurrection.com and look in the tech section and it will have a good write up with pictures on what to remove and how to!

If you check the 2nd gen FAQ, you'll find links to emissions removal information. No matter what you do, keep the BAC valve and cold start system.

Picked up the Wheels off Craigslist. I wanted a set of staggered 17's. But found these for only $200! So 18's it is. The Tires are shot and they are little beat up and one of the fronts has a a pretty bad rash...but I am going to see if I can clean them up a bit.

Whats the difference between the n333 and n332? I previously bought the n333 for the swap, but I picked up another harness and the guy threw in the n332.

RotaryRocket88 07-15-11 05:19 PM

N332: '87 TII
N333: '88 TII or 10AE

They're interchangeable. https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-gen-archive-72/ecu-part-numbers-applications-873382/

OK thanks I just wasn't sure and didnt want to get rid of it and then end up needing it.

Krbyman 07-19-11 02:50 PM

Well I ordered my driveshaft. They ended up sending me the wrong one... So back it goes!:icon_tdow

WIrotor 07-22-11 03:02 PM

I plan on picking up a vert for the summer and eventually swapping in a turbo motor too. Keep up the good work!

crickifur 07-23-11 10:58 AM

Nice work so far man! Im actually going to be starting the same project next month. Im looking to get a running vert and pick up the parts while im driving it as a second car. Im getting a jspec TII, but its getting ripped apart for some porting, powder coating and a BNR upgrade. I am actually going with the racing beat exhaust myself. Keep up the good work, gets me excited to start mine!

Krbyman 07-28-11 01:36 AM

I found some pics of it today. These was of it being my dd for a few months, and prior to priming the entire car.

Thanks, Yeah for 200 bucks i like them alot haha

fidrift 07-31-11 03:25 PM

really nice i just got a 88 vert myself thing is sweet nice thread

cab91089 07-31-11 06:32 PM

Youre welcome, I like the stock BBS rims on the verts so I think Im going to keep mine on unless I find a set of rims I really like.

fidrift 08-01-11 07:26 PM

i love the stock bbs's on mine too i am definitely keeping them on my car i just want to put spacers on them and lower it alot

cab91089 08-01-11 10:08 PM

Thats cool I was going to put low profile tires on mine and buy a coil over kit, Im not too sure on which brand or exactly what set up Im going with yet. Im more or less focused on getting the engine in the car

Krbyman 08-02-11 12:20 AM

Yeah I really like the bbs wheels...But I wanted something a little wider the 15x6 was just a little too narrow for me... I thought about getting some springs for it...But it handles like its on rails as it is... and I kind of like the stock stance of them...Plus 18's and dropping the hell out of it = Headaches and Cursing everytime I find a speed bump.:scratch:

cab91089 08-02-11 11:07 PM

18's are big rims, I dont think Im going to go that big if I switch to aftermarket rims just because of how rough the driving is. Ive been in a lowered Integra with 18s and the thing was terrible over bumps and my areas roads are terrible with pot holes. Once I get the money my vert is going to have a decent coil over kit but like I said engine is first on the list.

ELBORICUA602 09-01-11 09:17 PM

The original one that was on it when I got the car had some pretty nice slices in it and it was sportin the the black duct tape all over it haha.

Krbyman 09-06-11 10:50 PM

What do you still need to do to put the Turbo2 engine in the car? Your project is still looking good man. Im still stuck with the N.A engine unfortunately, money is tight.

Krbyman 09-07-11 10:11 AM

Well I need Oil Cooler lines, and a fuel pump.I am Just wired up the harness on the engine...But Yeah I am getting tired of looking at it and want to drive it haha.

xcloudz 09-07-11 02:36 PM

I'm also swapping my t2 engine on my gtu right now. I'm also in the process of taking out my t2 engine out of my na right now. Where did you remove the fuel line on the engine? i'm having hard time finding it

Krbyman 09-07-11 09:31 PM

So I went on a little spending Spree. Ordered my Oil Cooler lines, Fuel Pump Assembly, OBX 3" Down Pipe, Center Dash Trim Piece ( Mine was all Cracked fell to pieces haha) I am currently on the hunt for some tires.... Oh and I picked up an S5 bumper:icon_tup:

I believe it to be right between the firewall and back of the intake.... I am about to head down there and finish up wiring it I will look for it.

cab91089 09-09-11 08:02 PM

Nice so basically youll be done soon since you just ordered the rest of the parts you needed.

Krbyman 09-09-11 08:58 PM

Hopefully in the next week or two it will be running again:icon_tup: Oh and sorry I forgot to look for the fuel line. I will make sure I do that.

xcloudz 09-11-11 12:05 AM

cab91089 09-11-11 09:34 AM

Are you using the same N/A rear end? If you are and you are using a Turbo Trans....You need a Hybrid drive shaft.
