1979 rx7

Hi guys im new too form trying too get post count up as well as figure out some problems with my 1st gen ;)

Well i just recently got my rx back on the road and its not running the greatest iv used this site for about ten years and its hlped me out alot but sadly didnt become a member till now :(

So im pretty sure i either have a bad coil or a faulty ground somewere.
The car starts alright half the time. It ideles aliright except for the od hickup every 2-3 secs. the rpm gauge works but when it sputters kinda sounds like its gunna stall a bit the rpms fliker up like theres a short or something this happens well driving too.
also when i get too 3000-5000 rpms the car runs perfect. iv changed the sparkplugs lots and they always seem too be really dirty like carbon built up.

Any ideas?

It sounds to me like the carb needs a good rebuild if it hasn't in awhile. Does the car smell rich when its running? (Eyes start to burn feeling) also have you done a compression check recently?

from what i've seen in your description and video, my gut says you probably need to rebuild the carburetor. however, it costs nothing but some time to throw a timing light on the thing and see where you are. the amount of crank time got me thinking your timing may be off in addition to likely carb issues.

EDIT

what i originally said above applied to the first video with the FB. i just started watching your other video, with your SA, i will have to come back and post again when i'm finished. however, it wouldn't hurt to put a light on it as well.

So today i spent awhile shoveling my 85 rx7 out of four feet of snow too get hood open too get wires plugs coils and distrubuter floormats ect omg too forever minus 36 today in prince george argggg

Anyways i put new plugs and wiress on and cleaned up both the grounds too motor and under fusable links and connections too coils and new battery terminals and cleaned points on distributor and still runs the same as before well maby a weee better but not really lol

I was gunna put the new coils in from the 85 rx7 they arnt stock and only have 250 km on them. they look the same and are wired the same as the 79 but still i was unsure so i wanted too ask the experts :)?

The distributor on the other hand is differnt then the one in the 79 is it still compatible?

Iv had the car forawhile now and my grandma b4 me theres only 178000 on it with no carb rebuild yet and only other changed parts are starter and altenator. I will be ordering a carb rebuild kit tonight or tomarrow for it after i check the timeing at the shop and compression.
Can u recommend a rebuild ket or just go too lordco napa cheiften and get one there was thinking someone might know of a good one online somewhere?
ohhh ya and yes my eyes burn hahahahaha

Here is a pic of my 85 that i dug out today lol
ohhh and i got another vid ill post link soon of the 85 and 79 running again :)

Thx for the advice guys really apprtiate it anything else u could think of if those two things dont work for me?
