12a Rotor Housings
Anyone know if any companies are providing aftermarket solutions to the discontinuation of the 12a rotor housings. I am sure this must have come up already, but I need a tech post.

I will check on this.. The local shop here might have a solution..

They are still out there but are $1600 for a brand new pair. They have other options, like the cermet coating or refurbishing which is cheaper. I am working with someone who is getting them from Mazda and for only $800. So I believe they are still being made but in low quantities.People that have them sell them for way too much because when they first came out they were only $70 and $600 for the whole engine.

Another option is to buy a set of 13B housings and mill them down to 12A dimensions. It's a real pain, but has been done.

12a housings have been discontinued for a while now.

I believe I read somwhere that there was a fire at the plant that produces rotor housings. It wouldn't suprise me if they drop the 12A production entirely.

Could someone please expand on the concept of "cermet coating?"
I'd like to know more, as I have a spare set of worn housings sitting on the workbench. |

Cermet is not a dip coating, it's sprayed.

Tim Buck at Mazdaspeed announced it in the it.com forum awhile back. My application is for a ITA first-gen, so 13b housings wont work.

Tim Buck did announce this a few months back. There have been rumors for the last few years that production had ended, from what I can tell it finally did happen. I fortunately have two new housings on the shelf to build one more motor. |
