Road race track event at NJMP-Lightning sun/mon Oct 16 & 17
Come out and race (or take pics & pit crew) as the rotaries invade a BMW track day :)
http://www.motorsportreg.com/index.c...B97C19F4704B0B At least 3 or 4 FDs will be on track, and it's not too late for more to sign up :icon_tup: |
I'll be there:)
John |
I don't get the pricing... do I lie and do novice for sunday? (can't do monday). $200 not bad at all! Or am I reading wrong? Truth be told I already did 4 track days this summer, I don't think I can afford anymore :(
|
I can go but only to watch!!

BTW, I've got 2 vids, but youtube is being disagreeable with me, if you want to see/edit/post/whatever, hit me up with an e-mail and I'll get them off to you. Got that M3 that aponed out right infront of me on 1 of them. |
Had an AMAZING time, Kudos to the NJ BMW club for a very well-run event with plenty of track time and outstanding instructors. Also, we couldn't have asked for better weather.
I personally shaved over three seconds off my personal best lap time (Sakebomb dual 25 row oil coolers were the ticket), and Bryan was pretty much the fastest car out there in the Intermediate group. Myron and John also did very well in their first time tracking their FDs with consistent times (and a few fireballs from John) :D Thanks to Matt and Ryan for the pit crew help with the pyrometer and tire pressure gauge, and for those of you who didn't show up...... you really missed out on a wonderful time. There's always next year :icon_tup: P.S. Who could forget Scrubs and Rennapoo for their V-box satellite analysis and pro photog support as well :icon_tup: |
Hey Rich thanks for you telling us about the event. I can't say in enough words how great the driving school/track day was, especially for a first timer. It was truly impressive to see how well balanced the FD is on the skid pad and how competitive it is on the track from your's and Brian's sessions. Plus it was great hanging out with everyone for two days. I hope to get the car out to a few more track events next year. It was definitely worth every penny and highly recommended.:icon_tup::icon_tup:

Hey John I just found out you made some photos at Motoringconbrio.com - check out the two of you http://motoringconbrio.com/2011/10/1...orsports-park/
Seems like someone enjoys your car. |
Damn john, i didnt know u where racing. I tough u where going to see Mr Goodfellas burn the cars behind him to death.. I didnt know u where already tuned..
|
^^ MLDoom thanks for the link :icon_tup: "Seems like someone enjoys your car."..... Well it was the best sounding car on the track :hah:
^ Mr. Boner I am not tuned. I am running the base map with the supposed unsafe ignition timing map. I just installed AI and went. I had no problems. Also, I too was buning the cars behind me. Supposedly someone was afraid I was going to melt their bumper:lol: John |
John...the car looks really tuff in those pics. Looks like a really good time!
|
Here are some pics from the first day. Most of the rolling shots were taken by Tig418. Some of the rest were taken by me.
The day started off with some car control on a skid pad http://i956.photobucket.com/albums/a...d/IMG_7215.jpg http://i956.photobucket.com/albums/a...d/IMG_7228.jpg http://i956.photobucket.com/albums/a...d/IMG_7236.jpg http://i956.photobucket.com/albums/a...d/IMG_7244.jpg Then it moved to track time. http://i956.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/IMG_7256.jpg http://i956.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/IMG_7258.jpg http://i956.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/IMG_7259.jpg I was in the beginner group http://i956.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/IMG_7263.jpg http://i956.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/IMG_7280.jpg |
Fashionably late

I should be able to get them up in the next two days.:icon_tup: John |
Ok here's my contributions for now.....I'll be adding more as I have time :) I'm hoping this becomes a more regular site at next years track events!

Wow looks like a whole lot of fun!!
|
Looks like a good turnout. Did lightning this summer. I'm surprised they didn't do lightning one day and thudnerbolt the next. Not that lightning is bad in anyway, I like thunderbolt more (more challenging).
|
I always wanted to race at least one time in one of these events but I feel like my car is never Good enough to stand this type of racing. I feel like its going to fall apart in the middle of a sharp turn lolol
|
I know the feeling. I see my brake lines are cracking (stock rubber). Time to replace yet another thing! It may never see track. :(
|
Nah, don't you say you can't come out for a track day. Honestly my car was the weakest of the group and more stock than others (the black touring model in the picture above). I ran with the stock BOSE system, spare tire, glass sunroof, and leather seats all with stock turbos.
Remember its more about learning what your car can do in it's "normal state" for your first time. The only thing I would recommend is upgrading your brake fluid and pads for the track event. I upgraded the brake fluid but not the pads and boy was in for a surprise. I remember the instructor telling me to give it more brake, but I could only reply, "there's no more brake"; talk about an easy way to loose confidence out on the track. So to compensate for this I would lower my top speed (stayed around 100-110mph down the front straight) and brake harder sooner and then try to run through the corners with more gas to make up for the slower entry speed. All-in-all it was great fun and it really taught me so much about how these cars handle. The skidpad was hands down one of my favorite things to do. Just getting the feel of trying to get the car to understeer or oversteer really helps put into perspective how much these cars can take. And best of all you can watch John and Rich shoot fireballs at the cars behind them. ...seriously, I thought I was a street fighter competition. |
I can't do it in my '87 because it's a POS :D
Done it multiple times in my trusty honda though. I hold my own. ;) |

Personally I'd like to thank John for not letting me sleep in the car, and all the guys there that helped me with the all hands on deck approach to get my car to tech in time... I had an awesome time and can't wait to get back
Still trying to upload video's but youtube is not liking them for whatever reason.... If anyone knows any tips to compress video, please let me know. THey are .mov and when to tech outside of cars, I suck.... |
mobeoner.. you dont need anyone elses approval to tell you your car is track worthy...
if you feel she is sound.. and tech passes you.. you can drive her to the level the car and your skill set is capable of.. this is not racing.. its a track event.. dont let the track.. other car and drivers intimidate you.. you have to start somewhere.. learn the course and take it up to speed as you progress.. was in a stock fd my first track event in the early 90s at midohio with nothin but hawk blues and fresh fluids on her... nice pics.. wishin id have dropped by.. |
Here's the rest of the pictures from the track event. :)
