Philadelphia Rotaries (RCoP) - It's time again
:wavey: How's everyone doing? I know it has been a long time since we met, and I have not been very active due to many difficulties with the car:mad:, but I am about to get everything straightened out soon, so it is time to meet. :grouphug:
First and foremost, to those of you reading this that have not already joined, please join the Rotary Club of Philadelphia (RCoP) Yahoo group as I will generally use that as a major means of communication. The group can be joined here: http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/RCoP/ Now that that little piece of information is out of the way, we need to discuss getting together. I suggested late April to the group, but someone stated about school, so mid May looks like it might be the best. And since generally Sundays work out best with everyone's work scedule, I am thinking either May 16th or May 23rd (the 9th is Mother's Day). Next would be the location. Generally it is at a Hooters:titty: :titty:, but does anyone else have any suggestions ? A park or campground area would make for a nice bbq :beerchug:, but I need to leave that one up to the Philly area guys to give me info on that. Possible things to discuss/talk about would be getting reacquainted with everyone again and meeting possible newbies, and also getting a potential caravan to Rotorfest together for those who are attending. Also, trying to create a more eventful group would be a good topic as well. So right now if people could just pick one of the two dates or post another one and post an idea on location or something to do, it will give us a place to start from. Thanks :wavey: Ricky |
Neither of those dates is good for me because I have finals up until May 13th. So I am good for anytime after that. If you guys want to meet one of those dates, then I'll just hit up the next one. (in 2009)

Well, I'm new and will be signing up on the list here in a few mins. Either of those dates sounds good to me (the 16th being the "better" date). I just picked up my FD last week so I'm giddy with excitement. Heh heh.
|
i'm always game...... haven't missed a philly meet yet since i've owned my 7....... all of.............err................2!.. woohoo! either date works for me so i didn't vote

never been to a philly meet. i'll be there.
steve prew |
i have always had good intentions of trying to catch a philly meet but it seems somthing always conflicts. But i will be home from college may 13th, so i should be able to make it on either day.
Brad |
Either or. The 16th is the day after finals end for me and the day before summer session, so I'll be up for some fun. Just don't razz the newbie too much. =)
-Kris |
Looking forward to meeting some fellow owner's. Both dates will work with me.
|
 :bigthumb: I'm so there dudes!
whichever date is fine, just not to close to revolution as I will have to request off from work... |

Ricky,
Like I said I should be able to make it. The 23rd works better for me but if everyone else wants the 16th then make it then and I'll try to make it. I am thinking if everyone that says they're going to make it, actually does then this might be a decent sized get together.. Kevin |

Kevin I am still waiting to hear from Philly guys about what we could do. |
I'll probably show up if i'm not working.

I'll try to make it, we should try to coordinate some of these dates (down the road--not Mays meet) with the local 8 club. I can try to hook that up if you like.

Touring, they (we--I have an FD and an 8) don't mind at all--in fact all rotaries should be welcome at each others events. And the collaboration of the 7's and 8's helped turn the Glenside meet into a big success (check the thread). Wayne, who's user name is Irish in an Rx8, is the founder of the tri state rc8 club, check his site which I believe is linked in the Glenside meet thread. Lets talk, and see if we can all coordinate our efforts. Thanks.
Travis |
:withstupi 8's or 7's should be welcome we are all rotaries :)

Date....
Well, since it doesn't look like anyone really cares and I want to get the date out the way so people have time to ask off if they have to or make other plans, I will set the date to MAY 23rd. That way there is no conflict with the Carlisle which might cause us to lose people :D
So again, the date is now: MAY 23rd which is after the 13th for some of you ;) |
I'll try to be there. I'll post it on the 8 site as well
|
ill make sure I leave that date open. im looking foward to my first meet.
|
Got locked out of this web site at work so haven't been on in a while. So busy with our little boy that I have not even had time to get my FD tagged.
Should be free by May 23rd unless my wife gives birth early. She is due this June. Anyone want a nice FD? Not sure how much longer I will be able to keep it. All it does is sit in the garage now and with 2 babies I'll never get a chance to drive it again for years :( Expensive to keep it insured to just sit around - maybe I need to get an 8... |
May 23rd sounds perfect to me. Keep us informed on any changes and people coming. Thanks.
|
Ricky is gettign nervous guys... ;) we need to help him with a location. i suguested to go to FDR park like last time. there is plenty of parking, feilds, grills to BBQ on, and best of all its free. :D i personaly am sick of hooters, i dont know about the rest of you.... and you basicly sit with who you caravaned up and dont talk to many other newer people.
my vote: hooters=OUT FDR Park=IN if we want to go out after, thats a different story. :) |
I'm in... and I agree with FDR. If the weather's right, you can't beat it. This time we definately need some BBQ :D.
|
Ricky probably is getting a little nervous.. lol Trying organize an event and doesn't have a location. Hooters is nice because no one has to worry about beer, food, collecting money, another thing to be in charge of, etc. So it's nice for that reason but if this thing does get a little bigger with rx8 guys included then I don't know if Hooters will be big enough to seat us all(unless you guys have a Super Hooters?)
I think a BBQ would be a good idea too, however it's all up to the people who are planning. If you guys do go with the BBQ you're going to have to decide how to work the food/drinks. IMO Have one person(or two) in charge of food, donations sent to them and everyone BYOB if you want it.... Probably jumping the gun a little though.. |
nervous? :flipoff: Hehe. I really want to get guys together, just not fimiliar enough with that area to know all the spots (remember, this is a LANCASTER guy organizing the PHILLY people :p: ), and no one has given a good idea yet.
This FDR park sounds like a great idea. I just need to know if I need to reserve it or not. As far as the food, we can either have certain groups bring different things, or have everyone donate some $$ to one person to pick up shit. That way everything will arrive at one time and we don't have to worry about having the buns before the burgers. Also, this option will probably be a little cheaper than going to Hooters :p: |
fdr would be great, its only 25 minutes from me:)
|
i can have all the food across the street at the sports complex so noone has to *bring* it... i can order it and but it in a walk in refer to stay fresh and everyone can pony up a some scratch to pitch in for food cost... (i can see the disaster of this already... Keith, out $200... everone else= eat for free  )
FDR does not have to be reserved BTW. |

We seen your message on RX8club.com, welcome!
Our tri-state meeting is actually May 22nd Touring. I agree with Senseny one of our board members that we dont want to conflict our clubs in anyway, since we own the same basic engine. :-) When you have a chance why dont you check out the site www.rx8tristateclub.com Theres always the possibility that we can merge the dates and have a double meet up to get the new club rolling. What do you think Ricky/Travis? |
Well, I'll try and make it for the 23rd meet. I'm going out of the country on the 24th, so it's gonna just be if I have enough time.
|
I just moved up here to Coatesville, PA. So I will try to come to this meet.
I think I agree with Irish though. I think we should have a double meet instead of Rx-7's on one day and Rx-8's on another. That just doesn't make sense to me. Can't we all just get along. ;) - Cody |
Yeah, getting along is always fine with me, I just picked this date before I even thought about the RX8 guys ;) as normally it has been to our advantage to have the meets on Sunday's with everyone's schedule, including mine. I will see what we can organize here in the next few days, so keep checking in.
BTW Keith, that sounds like a great idea. I know there will be some money lost, but maybe we can all paypal you a few bucks. What kind of price would we be looknig at for that? Although......Keith paying for everything while we all eat free doesn't sound bad either  |
fdr park sounds good to me, I would definatly throw up a few bucks for bbq or whatever. merging the 7's and 8's sounds good too, the more the merrier. im just excited to meet some guys with rx7s, i dont think ive ever met another rx7 owner.
|
the money is not the issue everyone, its the principle of it. let me drive the park and find a spot that still has a working grill we could use and let everyone know where in the park it is... (its a large park with a few ways to enter for those no familiar)
|
If we can put these two meets together--great (7's and 8's). But if not, it is no disaster, we should just see if we can coordinate in the future. Someone is going to have to say "lets change our meet to the other date". I don't care, I think I could make either day (with either car). But if no one wants to change their day this time (understandable as things are already being organized on both sides), we should make sure to talk a little the next time.
|
Keith, if I do go to the meet at FDR, I will pay for food regardless of whether I eat or not. Just like you said, principle.

What is FDR ??
What and is FDR ???????
|
FDR is Franklin D. Roosevelt Park. Supposedly it sits across from the sports complexes in Philly. I found this site with some directions from different areas on a skater site http://www.sas.upenn.edu/~blathrop/getting.html
This should help give you a better idea. Keith is getting an exact location. I am currently talking with Wayne from the Tristate RX8 group, and I think we can get our two meets together so the turnout may be fairly large for this one. We are probably bringing from 4-7 RX7s from our area, Keith always brings 5 or 6, and then the ones that are actually in Philly. Throw on top of that RX8s and there are lots of photo opportunities. :D Also, hopefully JOSH will ring in on here and bring one of the RXs! |
Thanks for clearing that up.
Can't you find a better place than that ?
Not being negitive, but the smell across the bridge will gag you and it's not the safest place to hang ! How about somewere in Bucks county, Neshaminey State Park near Steet road and State road. or Corecreek Park Near langhorne near 413 ;) |
HotWheel... it's a very nice park, the "smell across the bridge" will NOT gag you, it's very safe (what makes you think otherwise?), and easy to get to. It has good sized parking lots at places, and grills :) so it seams like an ideal location :D.

im in ..
