I was wondering if you guys know if I could take a 3rd Gen 13bTT and drop it in a 1991 GXL and if I could beside the wiring harness and all the essentials what else would need to be done for it to fit correctly?

yep a 13brew fits straight in but i would suggest using the fc tranny oppose to the fd and i would also go single turbo and run a standalone , this would have to be tunne as well so you can contact eh339 she can give you her bf shop info he tunned rx.

deff! I guess all you guys here in this thread are going to be my go to guys there is a guy that i Have been chatting with that has a 91 GXL in NY and I am gonna look into it more and maybe take a trip down there and check it out.
Hey boriqua why would you suggest the FC tranny over the FD i am gonna guess for tranny mounts? # 2 what would be some good mods I should start with I know right now I have heard about apexi seal and I am gonna upgrade those to the 3mm and yes I know this deals with taking the engine apart but that is ok I like to tinker and such I am trying to get my first ASE cert so this will help. Other then that I am hear to learn I love the rotary engines and I want to know all I can about them thanks guys oh yes and my name is Tim so you all don't have to keep calling me grade lol |

Some specialized tools are required for teardown/buildup. The seals your speaking are "apex" seals. Apexi is a brand of aftermarket parts. Porting the motor is a great mod as well as the beefed up seals! I would assume that boriqua suggests using the 2nd gen tranny because of the mounts for one, also possible for the linkage part of the housing as well. I used a GSL-SE tranny in my second Gen and had to modify the shift linkage to get it into the proper place top side. |

hi tim. as far as the tranny of the fd they have issues with the sinchros the fc t2 tranny has better gear ratios and allows you to rev engine or higher rmps on gears giving you better power band also the tranny mound bolts righ up to your gxl oppose to the fd you have to be creative. as far as mods i would start by street port on the engine getting rid of the twin set up and go with single turbo here in this company you can get a great deal on single set up for the fd http://us.st11.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.c...o_1939_8562777 this set up should give you up to 450hp or more with good tunning also i would go with a standalone unit like a microtec lt8-s or even the lt10 but the lt8-s would do . as far as the porting you can get templates from many companies like pineapple racing ,rotaryshack http://www.advancedrotaryperformance.com/ this guy makes great templates so i highly recomend this one he makes a less agresive on the primary and more aggresive on secondaries so it keeps good low torque on the low end and great mid and high end power.

forig . as far as tolerances if the apex werent tored up and the bearings are intact i would not concern myself with tolerance, if the seal that were there intact the tolerances are fine. if you want pm me and lets meet so i can see this engine .

I have an apexi N1 Muffler on my 88 grand Am with I only did cause I thought it was cool that GM made a I4 Turbo charged back then (I never Knew they did) but anyways thank you both for the great info will be a big help down the road. Boriqua what web site is that the has the single turbo setup for the FD and what would you suggest for primary and secondary injectors on a set up like that? I want to try to make this car a sleeper also keep it looking clean and stock. Porting is what gives the rotary that mean loppy idle like camming a convention piston engine?

damn! got my rear end pulled from my TII today. not my favorite thing to do, but its done. ready to swap fuel tanks now too. hopefully it'll be registered on wednesday, then just gotta get inspected, plenty more to do to after that though......

My car is ready to run except for 4 hose clamps, and a few feet of vac line to hook up my wastegate
however i lost my plates (in my room somewhere) and have to find a place to give me a sticker.. (atmospheric dumped wastegate can cause problems even when there not open :( ) |
every year i wonder if im gonna be turned down for a sticker cause of my exhaust, but it hasnt happened yet, so keepin the fingers crossed......

haha, thats cool, i havent had any problems yet either (knock on wood) but i know some people that get turned down left and right, seems like every year it gets harder, but im sure i'll be fine, i just wish some people would stay up to date on the rules, but oh well, if it boils down to it, i wouldnt hessitate to through on the stock pipes just for the day!

the good thing about fb's is that they have no clue on this vehicles also since there are no factory ecus to measure emissions i have no problems getting inspected my exaust is 3'' from turbo back with 3'' round muffler acting as a cat but is straight through from magnaflow and at the end i have a similar muffler. being turbo charge its not loud at all but when the westgate opens well thats another story.

The muff I used burnt inside so I now have to cut it open and repack it with steel wool. Anyways, with my new exhaust, I drove past a cop on the Everet Turnpike just about to go through the tools in bedford at around 5000 rpm I think. He pulled me over and said my car sounded like a tank :) I took that as a compliment! Since they usually have over 1000hp if I remembed correctly.:) He also said, "You have a whole in your muffler?" Me, "Nope." Him, "You sure?" (Smirking like I have no idea WTF im talking about) Me, "Yes im sure I don't have a hole in my muffler, I built the whole thing, and the muff happend to be fiberglass packed and the FG burnt out so I now have to cut it open and repack it." Him, "ah umm ok" (With a confused look on his face) He just gave me a verbal warning. |
looks like we got some good gatherings coming up. sucks i work saturdays usually with no chance of having one off.... hopefully there will be more gatherings in the summer on saturday nites or sundays, exept for rotorfest, sunday, july 8th.... hopefully the massive flooding issue they got last week at island dragway hasnt changed to many race schedules, and that we're still on for the 8th.....

well, registerin the rx-7 tomorrow, cause sadly it hasnt been registered since 2005. guess all thats left is to got over it and get a sticker on it within the next couple of weeks!

Yea my buddy dan who is on the 240 forums and I know him personally said he knows a kid that works with the guy that owns them but his is a pot head and an unreliable contact to get to talk with this guy. They all look like they are in good shape.

At my work i met up with a guy who stopped me before leaving and told me that my exhaust sounded familiar. He then told me he has 4 rotary engines in his shop because people use them for airplanes :). I work at the nashua air port. I asked him if he had any turbos or manifolds. He does :) but no intercoolers. Anyways, if any of you need parts, let me know and I will see if he will sell anything.

Got the rx7 fired up!
It keep afterfiring however i realized that now that all the vacume leaks are fixed.. takes way less fuel to start (almost 2ms) backed the starting timming from 19 to 15 and it started for the first time in 4-5 months on the 5th crank on a jump from my subie smoked me out of my temp garage with 11.0 idleing afr's.. got them to 11.3's with an almost solid 850rpm idle w/o the idle air controler hooked up and my compensation maps still jacked from the last time i drove it in the fall before i got to dizzy to deal with it anylonger.. however tommorow (if i can find my damn licenceplates) ill pull it out and wash it woooo HOWEVER.. this is the first time in the history of my car that i maintained a low idle..what kind of oil presurs should i see around a substained 800rpm.. i was getting just under 30 with old oil that ishould probably change because i think it got some coolent in it (oil return hardline was just under lower rad hose and i know it splashed once) im chaning it tommorow so dont worry :) |

No modifications done by me, and i believe the engine is stock though and through Buddys engine runs ok, it was neglected by the previous owner and has extremely old plugs, filters, fluids etc etc It smokse a little bit.. however he was out of gas, and all i had was 1gal mixed for the chainsaw .. we will know better next week |
yeh, i'll be hookin up my new oil temp and oil pressure gauges asap, when my new oil filter pedestal arrives. be nice to know what i've got goin on more accurately :)
