DC Area Spring Road Trip 2018
 

Well, hopefully we've had our last snow of the season. Once the rains clear off all the remaining salt, I think it is time for a cruise. Who's with me?


Usual boilerplate:

If you have not heard about the spring/fall cruise tradition be sure to check out some of the previous trips.

Here's the current planned route: (MAP) The trip is out to the Shenandoah, a cruise along Skyline Drive, then back to Old Bust Head.

As per our usual, we will be starting the trip at a breakfast establishment (IHOP @ 7495 Iron Bar Ln, Gainesville, VA 20155) for everyone who is interested to get some grub. This gives us the opportunity to show up at more flexible times. If you want to eat, make sure you are there with enough time to get your bill taken care of before we leave the parking lot. Departure time will be 10am, even if you aren't there for food make sure you are there EARLY. We'll be standing around chatting anyway and if you are late you run the risk of us leaving without you. Then you will have no other choice but to try and catch us up after we've already woken up all the law enforcement with our loud exhausts.

Remember: These meets are more about the people then the cars. Having your car be down for service is part of owning an Rx-7. Feel free to show to the meeting spot and grab a ride along with someone else, or if you want to drive along with us in something else that is cool too.

Once you decide that you are in, vote for the dates you are interested in. Also, list your screen name and real name below so I can have a running tally of who is showing up.

Wouldn't be able to do 15th since that is the big PA show, but other days are good with leave in. Although right now still going through my dominion incident so hopefully should be good to go.

You're welcome to ride along if you're not sorted out by the date of the cruise. I did E-mail Ray Crowe and offer him the same, I'd hope he would drive one of his FD's if he comes though!

I recently pulled some grass out from under my car from the trackcross event there back in november. At least you didn't hit one of the many walls there.

So I should be able to make it this year :) I'll not be in the FD though :( I'll be bringing the new (to me) Miata, I've got a bit of work to do on it first. I've got new coilovers, sway bars, suspension bushings and brakes/rotors hanging out in the garage. I'll be putting those on this weekend. The coilovers will need about 100 miles or so to settle before I readjust height and get an alignment done, so I'm casting my vote for the second weekend, that way I can get my mileage in during the daily commute and get alignment done the night before :)

So I guess all it takes to upload a video is by doing it on YouTube. I didn't take the time to figure out how after the Fall Drive so I'll just put it here to promote the Spring Drive. I didn't really set upon making a video of that day, just discovered the capabilities of iMovie shortly after and used the footage I had. Technology!

Vlad - a good time to try to sway votes would have been when you first chimed in the same day Rocky posted the poll. That being said, the only time I recall when we went contrary to the popular vote was once when Fearless Leader Rocky‘s work situation changed and everybody insisted we switch dates so he could be there. Only fitting. Old farts like me can go pretty much any time, so I'll roll with any day that's chosen. How‘s the color-changing Stang and my lady, Anastasia ?

Ha, Rocky needs to let us chance our minds on the dates! I can't change my pick of the date! :(

Vlad, When everyone voted for the trip it was contingent on the course being in VA. Even if I switched you over to Saturday (and added Bill as well) it doesn't mean that everyone else would still come if we switched venues. I'm pretty sure Jack would bail as well as probably Mike since they are from out west. Having said that, if it's a yearly thing I could schedule it as our destination next year.

Re: Weather, we definitely cant do this weekend. Right now the forecast is for snow :bigeyes: If the roads aren't clear of salt by the 15th, or we get bad weather again, we may need to push to May 19th - 20th

Oh, I was talking about moving my vote to Sat instead of Sun, making a Sat/Sun even 50%/50% for votes...since i can do Saturday and want to head to the Sun event.

My apologies, I didn't look at the event close enough and assumed that it was on Saturday. I will try to read more carefully in the future. :icon_tup:

Bill I don't believe you voted for Saturday either, but said you can do any day. Does that mean you would do Saturday too? If so, this would mean 11 people signed up for sat (after Vlad's switch) and would save me from having to break a 10 - 10 tie.

Can't believe it may snow again. Surely it'll be a true blizzard this time since it was so tame last time and we actually have plans for the 15th. I planned on prepping the car this weekend as it hasn't moved all winter. Uggghhh. I foresee a postponement into May. I take it you're not free until May 19th-20th then Rocky? As you know, Sunday all day every day for me.

Let me know what day the cruise is. Taking out my fd as well.

Rocky - I voted for the two Sundays as a show of support for Duc and Ash who both said they could only do Sundays this time around. Even though it sounds like Duc is now out for Sunday 4/15, I'm gonna leave my votes alone on the principle that votes are votes. Fearless Leader has final say. I'll roll whenever it is.

I am a maybe for next weekend on this. Sadly, due to a bad power steering pump, my car is still stuck in AZ and wont be shipped back in time. I have my new daily I could bring though it will look like a school bus compared to a FC or FD :(

Rocky - Accuweather forecast for - Sunday still says 70° A shower and thunderstorm around - Saturday 81° Mostly sunny, nice and warm. Call it for Saturday and say the weather had the overriding vote !

I agree, it sure looks like the weather is being decisive. Okay I'll call it, unless the weather changes on us and we have to push we are meeting up SATURDAY 4/14.

You mean I semi-polished my wheels for nothing over the weekend? And I bought an annual pass last Fall too. Will have to drive out there solo and hope we get out there again before it expires in the Fall to break even. Weather always screwing me.

I've got my Antique tags for the FD now :) I'll do a shakedown test this evening to make sure nothing went wrong while it was sitting, If everything goes well, I'll be in that.

My boost control is acting up again, I probably wont figure it out so it looks like i'll be on the WG spring pressure tomorrow :( bummed.

In my ineffable wisdom, I decided it would be a good idea to change the gear oil in the trans and rear diff last week. While doing so, I completely mangled the square trans fill plug which was good and stuck so the car sits fluid-less while I wait for a new part to arrive. And here I was hoping to break in the new RE71Rs too. I'll either be on the bike or in the FoST tomorrow but my plan is still to be there.

I have a parts car if you feel like coming over tonight and grabbing the plug. I had a heck of a time with mine when I did my diff.

Thanks for the offer! It's tempting but I have so much I'd need to do to get the FD ready I probably will take the easy way out and put the summer tires on the ST and give it a bath instead of rushing trying to finish the FD tonight :)

Jumping in last minute. My FD is down with t56 issues so i will be riding with Thor 18 (Eric). Maybe we can throw a cutout on his to make up for my V8 noise shortcomings :biggrin:
