Attention New England Area Members

Greetings everyone,

Over the last year or so I/we have gotten several requests by members of the NE forum (specifically from the New England states) to split it up. Reasons ranging from the topics have no relevance to them, or the events are too far away or the fact that the New England threads themselves get drowned out by the massive amounts of posts from the other states in the section.

The staff has monitored the section for a while now and has seriously considered the situation. We believe that whatever we do should be in the best interest of the users of the region and therefore we are asking for your input.

We have proposed the idea of splitting the NE section into a true NE = "New England" and for a majority of the remainder of the section a more appropriate "Eastern" forum would be made. This split would offer a more specialzed section that could cater more specifically to the needs of the New England RX owner.

Please take a moment and post your thoughts or comments on this subject. This thread will be opened for several days pending responses from the section.

Thanks,
DKJ - RX-7 Club Admin

What states would go in what section?

DrKillJoY 06-06-08 08:45 PM

All the New England states would be moved to the NE section. (Technically, you guys won't go anywhere since the section is already named as the NE Region)

Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut.

John64 06-07-08 02:02 PM

Not sure if I like this idea. The CT, NY and Jersey people always talk back and forth on this forum.

DrKillJoY 06-07-08 02:21 PM

Understood, but we have to logically draw the line somewhere. If we were to add the NJ and NY people then the PA people are going to have the same issue. See what I am saying?

Keep in mind you are free to move in between sections and cross posting of threads would be acceptable as well.

RotaryBred 06-07-08 02:23 PM

^ +1 ^ half of us go to the same meets as well... I like the NE forum as Northeast and not New England.

FRFC3S 06-07-08 03:41 PM

I like the New England idea better. I was always wondering why this section had 2x as many states as all of the other sections. Atleast draw the line somewhere.

+1 for split.

Roadster 06-08-08 12:09 PM

I'm leaning toward the idea of splitting it up. It's only one click to see any other section. I'ts' not like anyone will lose contact. Either way works and I'm sure I'll roll with it.

2wankel 06-09-08 09:10 AM

Hello,

I can only guess that the majority of the posts is from the Tri-State area. If this is true than I propose that there should be a NE - North East Region Forum and a Tri-State Region forum which includes New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.

NE - North East
Tri-State - New York, New Jersey, Connecticut

I have no problems with this or anything else that makes things easier. I can always cross-post as you mentioned.

Thanks

John64 06-09-08 01:16 PM

^^ I'm with Ken.

mylove=88rxseven 06-09-08 07:10 PM

i think the true New England states should be separate because some of us get squashed by the bigger states

chiquirx7 06-13-08 07:35 AM

I think it a good idea because you have NY, NJ, CT haveing 3 thred to same event

JWteknix 06-13-08 07:54 AM

i like 2 wankle's idea

ROTARYROCKET7 06-13-08 10:44 AM

yeah ken (2wankel) has a valid point and the tristate area should remain in a seperate section while the NE states (not including CT) can be added to their own respective section.

I would like to apologize to the New England guys, we never meant to "drown out" your posts, its just that their is more activity in this region relative to the NE states.

Mad rotary love to what ever is decided.

Best Regards

From NYRA, NJRA and CTRA and soon to be MARA (Massachussets Rotary Association)

Jason, NYC/CT

dark_sado 06-13-08 11:06 AM

I'm all for the new setup

FRFC3S 06-13-08 06:35 PM

I'm all for New England, Tri State, and than a third section for the OH, WV, MD, VA.

DrKillJoY 06-13-08 08:06 PM

OH may very well move to a newly conspired Mid-West section.

F1blueRx7 06-13-08 08:48 PM

FYI, The mason dixon line is between maryland and PA. Technically we're the south.

Long live the confederasaaaaaaaa.

damn yanks.

John64 06-14-08 08:56 AM

Looks like this is going in a direction, not sure what it is. I like the Tri-state section (New York, New Jersey & Connecticut)
I think by splitting this all apart your going to end up having a section that has little to no posts.

Mazdax605 06-14-08 08:46 PM

Are there really that many true New England members anyway? It seems most are in The CT(I know it's NE)/NY/NJ/PA/OH/MD area, and not many from New England anyway. Says the guy from New England. It seems to me that the New England section wouldn't have much traffic, but maybe I am wrong. I can go either way,and I agree it isn't a big deal to click another forum anyway.

John64 06-14-08 09:10 PM

Why not put up a pole for all to vote?

DrKillJoY 06-14-08 10:52 PM

You mean a poll?

OtakuRX 06-20-08 07:19 AM

I like the idea.

Pele 06-20-08 08:37 AM

There are so many ways that this can be split up... There are so many local areas that span across states.

I go to meets in MD because they're closer than the ones in Virginia, even though I LIVE in Virginia.

I've gotten parts from NC and hence MD, VA, and NC can be considered Mid-Atlantic. (Also evidenced by the race series MARRS, Mis Atlantic Road Racing Series.)

Just subsection it for meets. Allow people to request subsections. Tri-State, Englishtown NJ, D.C. area metro meets (Dulles Towncenter, MD Fuddruckers, Richmond Starbucks meet, etc...)

Goofy 06-20-08 08:59 AM

I say a true New England forum, put the rest of the NE into an Eastern forum and add a Tri-State sub-forum for CT/NY/NJ in Eastern (and linked from NE if possible).

A true NE forum would make it easier for me to find anything local since NY, VA, MD et al are too far from RI, Eastern MA, NH, VT, ME to be considered "local".

REtuna 07-01-08 03:29 AM

Im Back Lol

79seven 07-17-08 11:39 AM

just my opinion here,

If you split, you are always gonna make someone unhappy.

I always thought there are too many states in this section, but its not like we get a ton of threads going on here. Its been like this for so long, if more people could name the state before the thread, I think that would help a little bit.

Its not too hard to just scan through the threads.
I would also like a smaller group, but i dont think it would make much of a differance.

the problem here is too many small states, with too many wierd shapes, in which parts of states are closer to some than others

western NY is closer to northern PA and OH
SE PA closer to DE and MD
PA next to NJ
one can go on and on here

My vote is to leave it the way it is.

Boyto 08-30-08 10:38 PM

i agree with goofy

sunburn 09-06-08 06:22 AM

good idea...

RX7natic88 02-26-09 06:19 PM

I think we should do a poll

viciousNY 03-13-09 01:07 PM

I'm up for a split. I also like the idea of subsections and cross linking posts/threads (where applicable).

I still have my FC in Upstate/Eastern NY, but now reside in Southern/Central PA.
The NE forum as it sits now is just too vast.

A poll sounds good.

ramello 03-13-09 08:46 PM

NY is really the big problem state here and should be split in several places and not considered as a whole

Just an input, the way my company defines the divisions is North Atlantic Upper = Maine, NH, VT, MA, CT and Upstate NY (Kingston to Plattsburgh)

Then we have a North Atlantic Central which includes NYC, NJ, Eastern PA

Then North Atlantic Lower is Maryland and below and there is a Midwest Central region which has that Western NY, Western PA, OH and other states in that area

You always have to provide an exclusion for the NYC guys because for some reason driving an hour and a half in traffic to go 15 miles is not the same as driving an hour and a half in no traffic to go 90 miles, and the CT guys that are in that southern tear drop can just join into that North Atlantic Central forum since they communicate mostly with that group and the guys in western CT would be part of North Atlantic Upper
we can use different names im sure but thats just my two cents

killam 03-16-09 06:38 PM

Split them up so each state has its own subsection =D

i think this is a very good idea. there is just to many of us on this forum:icon_tup:

GAMBEAN 08-10-09 11:54 PM

I can say future "nashua" representation. let the rotary's come out!!!!!

SrXcitement 08-18-09 11:44 AM

I concur Id love to hit up a few meets but i find a lot of them are indeed too far away

Andy87t2 09-29-09 06:11 PM

I like the idea of a New england forum. There is always the option of looking at the other section if you want to go to meets in that area. The new england posts really do get hidden amongst the NJ and NY posts. as well as the other states that are too far away for us to get to for meets.

ZumSpeedRX-7 09-29-09 07:44 PM

i could go either way with the way it is or a split, but i have never had a problem finding relevant threads. if i had to vote, i'd say keep it. post up a poll.

taz8924pr 10-03-09 12:00 PM

i like 2 wankle's idea but have to include the south part of mass beacuse is close tu us and any way is like part of conn in rotary means.

Roen 01-07-10 09:44 AM

I propose the following breakdown:

New England section: ME/MA/NH/RI/VT
NY Metropolitan Area: NY/NJ/CT/PA
Ohio should be moved to Mid-West

The Mid-Atlantic States should be moved to another area, possibly SE.
Mid-Atlantic: MD/VA/WV

JamesVaughn3rd 01-07-10 05:12 PM

I vote a breakout into two as well.

NE - Everything north of NY
MA - Mid-Atlantic, VA,MD,DE,NJ,East PA
Move West PA and OH into a western forum

It's like 5 hours from Harrisburg to Pittsburgh right? And nothing inbetween...

New York is the problem cause it should be part of CT and part of NJ.

Bugeye RX 07-18-10 09:45 PM

I like the NE forum idea:icon_tup:

elmerxfudd 12-13-10 04:26 PM

I like the "New England" "tri state" breakdown

scott01hickey 12-16-10 08:33 PM

good idea

NE should be for New England states only...

Starbux 02-18-11 04:15 PM

New england , Tri states , and the DMV. Im down to take PA and WV... lol since when is ohio even close to the east coast?

rx-7tt4life 02-21-11 10:23 AM

i like the idea also

Starbux 03-03-11 07:36 PM

Excuse me admin... this topic and the season is coming up... the meets are getting gaggled together... can we please split this stuff up soon?

New England section: ME/MA/NH/RI/VT
NY Metropolitan Area: NY/NJ/CT/PA
Ohio should be moved to Mid-West

or can we get some type of reply?

wesmcbride 03-09-11 06:53 AM

there are now 9 stickies and more to come with all of the events that keep going on...
my suggestion:
-new england
-new york metro
-DC metro

85Gen1 06-03-11 07:57 AM

Ya i really like the idea of splitting up. it would be nice to see how many people we could get to do a local meet( like 4 or 5 hr drive) Im not sure how many people we would see here in vermont... i think theres three of us but i know the guys around here pretty well and they have been talking about seeing if we could get a meet closer to us because its too far of a drive to go and farther than true New England areas.

And i vote poll!

carlitosrex7 09-08-11 01:46 PM

i say go with the new setup, got to separate the New England area from the Tri-State.
