Intro/Wanted Items

Hi guys. My name is Allen Stewart and I am heading up a race team for the 24 Hours of Lemons event in Houston, TX at the end of February. For those of you who don't know what LeMons is click here http://24hoursoflemons.com

I found a 1980 RX7 on Craigslist a while back and ended up buying it for $100. It was in pretty rough shape, interior was junk, no title, no keys, hadn't run for nearly 5 years and the owner thought the motor was blown. After we towed it home I spent hours on here reading about rotary engines and how to revive them. A couple liters of Marvel Mystery Oil, Seafoam, a rebuilt Sterling carb, and some new plugs and she runs well. Compression is a bit low, so I think the motor is on its way out but we decided to give it a proper send off by racing it until she blows.

I know that some of you probably don't like the fact we are going to ruin this car, but honestly it's not a good candidate for restoration and we would rather see it raced into the junkyard rather than crushed without having a chance to stretch its legs one last time.

Long story long, we are looking for any spare parts that might be helpful to us to complete the race. Anything from alternators to suspension parts, brake calipers to radiators. If it's something that is used on a race car we are looking for spares. The whole point of this race it to keep the costs of any non-safety related parts to less than $500 so we are on sort of a tight budget, but let me know what you have and where you are located. If you have anything you want to get rid of for free we would be more than happy to take those parts off your hands.

I am in the metro Denver area, but we would be willing to pay shipping.

Thanks guys! It looks like you have a top notch community here!

-Allen

I think it's great that you're going to race this first gen one last time. I don't have any spares that would be useful to you, but I wish you luck.

Thanks! We are excited about it.

Getting the RX off criagslist was totally by chance, but it turned me on to the rotary bug. I just purchased a '79 that I intend to use as a legitimate track car.

We popped that original 80 motor in testing and raced with the 79 engine. It was smokey, but it survived and carried us to 5th of 95.

Local fellas, we are in dire need of an early LSD we can install in this car. Please give us a shout if you have anything we may be able to use for our project.
