Emissions Testing in CO

Hey guys, I did a little research and it sounds like you guys have to go through emissions testing, I'm moving my car out to Fort Collins in the spring. I won't be able to pass emissions, ever, so I was thinking of just keeping it registered in MN. Anybody got any input ?

Passing emissions here isn't that hard. Buy a cheap, bolt on replacement cat for under $200 will get you passed. If that doesn't work, buy a gallon of ethenol. You only need to pass it once every 2 years.

Well, I've never had to do emissions testing and I'm not going to start now. Here's my mod list let me know if you think its possible at all:
Race port
3mm seals
Modified Twins
DP,MP,CB
PowerFC
FMIC
Supra Pump
AEM Ignition Amp
1300cc Sec. Inj., Etc...
And I wouldn't be able to put a cheap cat in there because of the Apexi cat back, it just bolts right to the downpipe.

Yeah that might be hard to get passed emissions.
If nothing else you can try to get a PO box from one of the towns that doesn't require emissions. You will get pulled over for out of state tags, I know i did.

I suppose I can handle being pulled over. But I don't think having out of state plates is a reason for pulling someone over. What do heavily modded FD's do in CO to pass emissions ?
I could just keep my MN plates and keep renewing my tabs from MN and just not register it in CO couldn't I ?

Speaking of emissions stuff. If you put a turbo into an NA will it pass emissions?

I suppose if you keep all the emissions crap on the engine and keep a stock exhaust.
Maybe when I bring my FD down next spring someone can borrow me a stock exhaust setup if possible. I know it's allot to ask but I will do all the work. I've been working on these things for quite a few years now.
I wonder if it'll pass with a full stock exhaust system, I have no airpump or any emissions on the engine so its hard to say...

I didn't have stock exhaust when i passed. I a cheap cat and a custom cat-back. I passed. I don't think they really check the engine bay, just the smog here.

wait is it really only once every 2 years?? ill have to do a happy dance...it took me forever to have any car pass!

and what do highly modded cars do to pass? i mean rx7s...theres a dude with a ttc4 gs with some trick exhaust that has two paths, an emissions legal side, and a performance side. or something like that i forget.

Do whatever it takes to pass in 2005, run lean, cheap cats, whatever, just pass. If nothing else get out of the Denver Counties. El-paso will pass damn near anything (but douglas at least required a special test at their facility and that sucked) But just get it passed.

I know a few places in the springs that'll pass any car for $100. Any car.

and of course strong rumor to the point that I've heard it as fact is that they are doing away with emmisions in 2007 state-wide.

that'll be a happy day.

Sweet, I would much rather bribe somebody to pass my car than go through the trouble of trying all sorts of crap and manipulating all my tuning work. Im going to hit you up for those places in Co springs when the time comes...

Not really. There are already some people that drive cars that smoke like their car is on fire so if they don't have to get it to pass something we are going to die in bumper-to-bumper traffic.

Maybe one of us should get a job at an emissions testing facility...
I'm not cool with "un-modding" my car but, I guess sometimes one has no choice...

im willing to take that risk

but for the $100 thing? thats way worth it compared to all the hassle, not to mention for my 2nd gen i spent about 500 to finally get it to pass...of course it does run much better in the end...

one big problem i have is i really, really cant stand to see some dumb bastard putting his mits on my car. at the place i went to, well several times, this fucktard almost drove the thing into one of those cement poles, no joke.

and when i had my 3rd gen through, forget about it. even if it was like 10ft i cant stand seein some liltte punk driving my car, hell no. thank GOD that car passed in 1 try x__x

What exactly do they do?
I've never had to do it here in MN.
I thought you just drove up and they put a sniffer on your exhaust and you just let it idle...

The connect a hose to your exhaust and run the car. That's pretty much it.

Well they don't just let it idle. They do run the car up to 50 miles an hour i think...maybe it's just 30. I'm not sure.

No, Fort Collins is a static test, the car doesn't move. They just attach a sniffer to the exhaust pipe and run the car at both idle and 2300 rpm.

The test will be phased out in 2007 in Larimer county. There will be no more e-testing after that.

The Denver test is on a dyno over a simulated driving course and considering all the money they spent to set those stations up about 10 years ago, I doubt those are going away any time soon.

They're still easy to pass.
