FD Illegal in IL Jan 1?
Code:
I don't know if anyone saw this but it goes into effect Jan 1. The language does not seem to have verbiage that would exempt the RX7 tail lights.
Code:
d) No person shall drive or move any motor vehicle or

equipment upon any highway with any lighting or combination of

lighting with a smoked or tinted lens or cover.

The exemption is implied. The door sticker states that the vehicle was built to the standards of the time and that's all there is to it. Same with the DA integra. From factory, the headlights dont measure to some height minimum somewhere. Idk, I forget but the car is exempt because that's factory equipment. It's fine..........
Yeah, its probably just an excuse for cops to stop and harass people in Chicago I doubt it will be enforced here. The main problem is cops generally have no idea if your car is grandfathered or not, they write the ticket and say tell it to the court.
I once got pulled over for driving around my neighborhood after installing a new engine. I had no hood on. I informed the officer of the law and then pulled the statues out of my glove box. He still gave me a ticket. I enjoyed seeing him in court and making him look like a fool and a crooked tax collector. The judge happened to agree with me. Well worth the day off.
Also got pulled over for having a little flag hanging from my rear view mirror. Something very common at the time. Technically illegal, obstruction in window. I went to court and as I walked through the parking garage I took many many pictures of vehicles with different things hanging from the mirrors. I waited my turn for my little trial and submitted my evidence. I argued that if you're clearly choosing when and where you enforce the law then you are in fact profiling or that you are simply attempting to collect money from people who are statistically less likely to stand up here like I am. His argument was he was enforcing the law at the time. I'm generally a very soft spoken and quiet dude but my last argument was a bit off point about being a vet that volunteered to fight this country's wars and that I wasn't going to stand around and be taxed by a police force that should be out solving any of the large numbers of murders going on. If they don't want to do the real police work that tax paying citizens like me pay for then I'll wait in the parking garage to see them break their hands writing tickets. Last case I won before I left that terrible state. The last thing they want is anyone who has some type of guts and is basically informed about the law and how to argue a point.
Even now I'm tense thinking about that place. Left almost ten years ago and won't even go back to see family. Screw Chicago, screw IL. Even now as I dread a terrible cold front coming through my adopted state, I'm grateful I got out and continue to try an lure my family up here.
