BC LT-8 timing problem

ok so here we go, i just finished my 10ae a week ago, after getting a built s5 13bt i had to take the car in for tuning do to a new setup. this was the fist time i had used my LT-8 that i had gotten off AusRotary, i had gotten the microtech for my fist get t2 swap but that fell through so i put it in my fc.

the problem im having now is that with the timing locked at 0 in the lt8 using the laptop or hand controller it shows on my pulley that im 40 advanced to the left of the trailing mark. so saying that my trailing plugs are firing before the leading plugs, no matter how much we try to retard the timing it doesn't help. we checked the wiring to the coils and its fine.

specs of my microtech
originally it started its life as an MT-8 but it was sent to microtech for upgrades to an LT-8
set up to be tuned in matrix mode
set up for S4/S5 coil packs

plz help!!! i need the car up and running again ASAP!!!

is the pulley and pulley boss the original one from that motor? they are al indexed to each motor. if it got swapped out then thats why your having such a problem with it. best bet is to try and find a racing beat front pulley to line it up with.

how does the motor sound? does it sound like the timing is that far advanced? whats the egt's at idle? if all looks good then i still suspect the pulley being off. can you post up your map your using to on the car.

i dont have a laptop adaptor of my own, the car had a is smooth but it sorta sounds like a mini half bridge. it idles at 10 or 11 on the wide band and cruses at 12 or 13 out of boost, in boost it goes back to 10 or 11. the pulley was remarked at the shop that built my motor.

Honestly, if it runs fine and has not knocking, preignition or detonating it's prob just the pulley being marked wrong. but without being able to get into the map to see it there's really no telling

stop using an inductive type timing light
,, can be fraught with issues with some twin coils
( related to the fact that the spark goes towards the engine on one post,, and from the engine up the other post )
[ most people fail to grasp that twin coils work like this ]
ie,, some inductive pickups will not sense the signal correctly when on the wrong lead from a twin coil
[ note one of the coil posts is marked with a colour dot for this reason ]

and so i think your pickup is picking up the " late leading wastespark ",, and not the true impulse

use instead an el cheapo non inductive "smudge" light to confirm,, the far left of the smudge is the most correct mark

OR,, put the timing light inductive pickup on the other leading coil post
( as they both fire together anyhow )

OR ,, time the engine using the FD method
( trailing split values to 15 and set from the t1 lead and 20 ATDC mark )
