Yeah it could be stuck but i dont think so. I did the ATF treatment and turned the engine over by hand. Then i cranked it over hoping it would start, yes the compression sounded much better, but it still didnt sound right. But later on this week when i have time ill check out the exhaust ports and tell you how it looks.

It is possible that the apex seal is just stuck due to carbon buildup (if the car has been sitting). Easiest way to check if it is stuck or is broken is to pull the exhaust manifold and use a flashlight and a mirror to look in the exhaust port (has someone slowly turn the engine over and look at each seal). If the seal is broken, the rotor, rotor housing, and possibly the rear and/or center iron would need to be replaced in a rebuild.

The alt belt won't have anything to do with timing. There is a gear at the end of the distributor and that connects to another gear inside of the engine that is driven off the eccentric shaft. The timing could be off if:

    - distributor not installed correctly
    - front pulley on wrong
    - spark plug wires going to the wrong spot
    - coils connected to wrong ignitors
    - etc.

The fusible links are on the driver strut tower. There will be a block of 3 and another block of 2. The injectors/ECU are on the block of 2. Easiest check is to use a multimeter and check for power to chassis (~12v) on each side of each link. However, sometimes they can be patially blown and show okay with little power draw, but be no good when full currect tries to flow.

I might need more hostory on the car to figure it out. For example, if the engine had been apart for a rebuild, the front pulley may be in wrong and timing could be way off (even if you think it is set correctly).

Also, test compression. The easiest method is to do a "ghetto compression test". You can search the 1st gen section on how to do it.

If you have compresion, fuel, and spark (with spark at/near the right timing), the car should fire.

Sure. I took a look at the post you made.

    1. does the tach bounce when you crank the car?
    2. you might have a blown/loose fusible link, so no power to injectors

Anyway, we can check some things and try to figure it out.
