Warmup wizard question
 

I've got my car almost to the point where it will warm itself up properly, but the 'warmup wizard' doesn't get the motor quite to the point where the temp is high enough to idle on its own.

Basically, it will run fine (with AFRs in the mid-high 12s) as it goes through all the values from cold up to the top value of 160 F, but once it passes 160, the motor almost immediately stalls out. If I keep my foot on the throttle a bit as the motor heats from 160 to 180 or so, it will continue to run fine.

I think if i could add an additional value at 180, or shift the 160 value up to 180, it would be perfect, but I cant find anywhere to do that. Is it even possible?

Otherwise, are there any other options?

Hello, i have the same problem, but i don´t have idle valve, so i try to compensate it with the wide-band trying to put the AFR on the correct place, also i have the idle advance timing, but
i think that is messing up with the rest of the table.

Running down hill with throttle close also sometimes lower the temp to the same level, as if the engine was starting to warmup, on this case once is low than 160
the warmup wizard start to add fuel again.

To pass this situation only if the software have a internal clock for 10 minutes for example, and after that time the warmup wizard can´t come alive again.

If you have wideband correction try it, it may help to get it more stable.

so annoying. idles and warms up nicely all the way from cold to 160, then falls flat on its face the moment it leaves the warmup enrichment table

tune your ve table then re adjust the warmup

VE table is pretty solid, still some fine tuning to do but not bad. As long as I hold the throttle to get from 160 up to 180, it runs fine

MS2 with MS2/extra firmware should allow you to adjust the coolant temperature bins so you can add one that goes to 180.

Nope, not on the MS1.

Though I've never had this issue with an MS1. You may have to make the idle a bit more rich, or increase the fuel in the 160 bin.

Do you have an idle valve?

I actually saw this the last time I used MS1 on an rx7.

i actually might have solved this, the last couple warmups have gone smoothly

i've made a few changes but i think what solved the warmup was setting the idle control back to warmup only, then making the warmup very 'wide' by setting the low temp very low but with it's DC very high, then the high temp set right at full operating temp. so now the warmup idle covers a larger range and starts at a higher RPM and drops slower.

i think with this idle control i can actually lower the warmup enrichment values, since AFRs were in the 11s during warmup now

Closed loop idle should handle it if set correctly. It sounds like you may have some lean bins in your VE table. The idle should be a little valley with more VE surrounding it so that if it starts to wander, a little more fuel will be added to catch it. Same with timing. That's how I've always set up MS1.

yeah that's pretty much what i've aimed for. the table definitely needs some tweaking still but it's not horrible now

im not sure i've quite wrapped my head around the closed loop idle settings yet to be honest, it behaves really erratically when i try to use it

The MS1 settings on my website should result in fairly stable closed loop idle assuming the VE table is smooth in that area.
