Thumbs up s4 n/a FC, 2nd gen Eclipse

Okay, so I'm with my buddy leaving a parking lot in a town by my school on my 21st birthday, about to jump on the freeway and head back to school, when I see this 2nd generation Eclipse convertible with a ridiculous primered body kit and a fart can exhaust. He jumps in his car about 30 seconds after I do, and I proceed to drive next to him, and rev a little bit. Well, there wasn't really any place to race in this town. Long story short, we pull into a gas station, and arrange to get on the freeway and go at it. He messed up his directions somehow, I end up playing around with his buddy in a GSX on the freeway (He pulled on me, but not too hard; found out later he was auto), and then he went off and found a 4th gen Prelude to play with.

STORYTIME
ANYWAYS the kid in the 2nd gen n/a Eclipse and I get to talking, figure out how we're finally gonna do this (on a long straight stretch of a local road), and take off. Turns out he had a cold air intake, exhaust, and listed one or two other little things that I forget now. We get up to 60, I give 3 honks to signify the race (pre-arranged), and drop down to 2nd gear. We pull to about 100, at which point I slow down because a cop is coming over the crest ahead of me, and I had him by a solid 3 lengths. Well, we keep on driving this road, and I call out another race, pulling from 45. We go to maybe 85 this time, and I get him by about 2 lengths, and he starts dropping back hard. I called it quits and drove off, having gotten bored at this point.

Anyhow, it was my first real race. Yeah, it was drag, which is not as cool as through twisties... but oh well. I know it's not the most impressive kill ever, but I felt that it was a driver's race, and I had fun.

Firstly, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

Secondly, nice kill, and nice job against the GSX.

Oh, I didn't actually beat the GSX... but in a pull from 50-80, he only got a couple lengths on me. He also had upgraded his turbo and intercooler, so I was actually relatively proud of that.

The car that I beat a couple times, though, was just a non-turbo.

Thank you, though.

Haha thanks, bud. Yeah, some people buy n/a FCs, and expect to run against turbocharged cars. I'm not one of those guys, but the GSX guy and I were bored waiting for his dumbass buddy in the 'vert to catch up, so it just kinda happened.

lol sad part is, before I wanted an FC, I wanted a Mark3.5 Supra, before that an Integra, and before that, an Eclipse/Talon

LOL he actually was somewhere between a emo-lookin bitch, and a white gangster-wannabe. He had the emo hair, but had a modern style baseball cap cocked off to one side, and fairly large fake diamond earring, if I recall correctly....
my buddy and I were laughin at him, 'cuz he looked like he was trying to be all hard, and then he was a really mellow guy when we actually talked to him.
oh, and no sun glasses.

how could anyone ever get bored with roll racing 15sec cars?
drivers race is from a dig, not very hard to hammer from a roll. driver skill is negated just about completely with a roll race...

haha. i had a similar experience with an old buddy of mine who thought that his eclipse was fast...

na 87 rx7 running really nothing at all special [manual]
vs.
na second gen (mid to late 90s) eclipse [automatic]

This guy says, "Aww your rx7 isn't that fast" and i was like "alright, lets race down to the albertsons a few miles away"
we raced through a few lights from a stop / dig and rolling. Toasted him each time, once i hit about 4000 rpm in second gear. He couldn't handle it
I guess either because of his auto trans. or my decent shifting abilities and rotary engine magic...lol.

comedy.
