My first V8 kill.....GTO owned

There's a guy that lives just up the street from me who has a GTO. It sounds nice and throaty as hell.

I just installed my SMB midpipe, and as my car was sitting in my driveway I see him pass by. I take my car out for a cruise to test out the new midpipe. I slow down to a stop light as it turns green, and drive through the intersection in 2nd. Just as I pass the intersection, I see him coming in the lane next to me. I slow down to let him catch up and we match speeds right next to each other at around 30mph. I give a little more throttle and I see his nose raise up and his engine roar. Right when I saw that, I floored it, and instantly jumped 2 cars. After that, he either gave up or missed 3rd and I'm way in front.

It was a short race only really in 2nd, but it was my first V8 kill . I wanted to race him just to see how I would do, and I impressed myself.

I have no idea what mods he had if any at all, but mine are:

Ebay intake pipes with K&N filters
SR motorsports SMIC
SMB midpipe
PFC, datalogit, wideband

I was still in LA at 6. On my way home though, I saw a black Fd with 99 taillights heading on the 60W. I saw him from the other side of the freeway.

I forgot to mention, it was kind of cold out, and with my boost controller off, I hit a max of .92 bar according to my AVC-R.

Please tell me it was an '04. If it was the 400hp LS2, I'm almost certain the outcome would have been a tad bid different. Not dissing your car or anything, but you seem to be very moderately modded and the LS2's are pretty damn quick. Either way, good kill.

I'm really not sure, and I have no idea how to distinguish the 2. Are they pretty heavy? I put down somewhere between 300-320 hp and only weigh in the 2600s. I did pull him pretty good though, so I think it was a 5.7.

^They are pretty heavy (between 3400-3800lbs), but they still run low 13s stock (well, the LS2 does, if you can get traction). You seem to have a very good power to weight advantage though, so its hard to say really (now that I know your numbers). Given your setup, you should be in the low 13's high 12's if you get any traction, so it very well could have been the LS2.

put the two of you on a track and i bet the outcome would be diffrent.not to burst your bubble.if it was a 04 or newer it would be a diffrent story.racing on a street is dumb and he probally figured that out and gave up.

^I think you mean '05 +. The '04's had LS1's with about 350hp.

What's so different at the track? From looking at their stock numbers, I could take them on the strip no matter the year. I've only raced 1/8th mile, but if it were twice as long, I would be very easily into the 12s. And the last time I was at the strip, I was making less power than now.

And a road course? LOL

Well, believe it or not, the GTO does have a track heritage...It is the Holden Monaro of Australian Road Course Fame...so if he had done much to the suspension he might have surprised you...maybe not beaten, but definitely surprised.
