Got owned by my girlfriend!

So yesterday I was following my gf home from the bank and we pull up at a red light next to eachother. She has an 04 pontiac sunfire which is actually pretty quiclk...but not as quick as my 7...or so I thought. So the light turns green and I get the jump on her since her car's an auto and we go flying down the street. Well one i hit third gear it was like neck and neck all the way till her car governed out at 120 lol...I thought my car was faster then it is. Granted it's an 86 n/a with 150k miles but comeon, a sports car vs some 4 cylinder GM garbage. I guess the moral of the story is I NEED A TURBO!!!! :shocking:

TweakGames 10-24-07 02:27 PM

naaa with your NA and transmission you are putting maybe ... if your lucky 98 HP to the ground. Are your 5/6 ports working? You dont need a turbo, you need to get a 5 speed and a rebuild.

"The Ecotec I-4 generates 140 horsepower (104 kw) at 5600 rpm and 150 lb.-ft. (203 Nm) of torque at 4400 rpm."

I am not in any way surprised she can keep up with you.

But lets wait for ReTeds opinion. :D

RETed 10-24-07 02:32 PM

Shame on you doing this shit on city streets!
I hope you two kill each other before you kill any innocent bystanders...

TweakGames 10-24-07 02:34 PM

and there it is ! haha

This owned you btw
https://files.conceptcarz.com/img/Po...u-e02-1024.jpg

Lateralus23 10-24-07 02:44 PM

Hahaha.

My car is a 5 speed currently...how much do rebuilds usually cost???

TweakGames 10-24-07 02:48 PM

opppsss I read that wrong I thought you had the automatic ... wow even more sad.. hehe You got beat by and auto sunfire hehe sad very sad... Make sure your 5/6th ports are working, and good rebuilds done yourself are around 1500 for a minimal rebuild done by a pro is 2300 ish

dont turbo that high milage engine it WILL blow something trust me I have had 2 of them so far.

Lateralus23 10-24-07 02:55 PM

jeez for 2k i can just buy a new engine...whats the point of rebuilding then?

classicauto 10-24-07 03:01 PM

Not very surprising.

An N/A car isn't very fast. Shit, I drove an RX-8 yesterday that could've had its ass handed to it by a Honda Odessey full of fat co-workers down a straight stretch.

There's nothing exceptionally quick about a stock or very close to stock N/A RX-7.

They're not slow on the other hand, and they're very fun cars to track - but they don't have the torque to really get up and gone.

TweakGames 10-24-07 03:03 PM

they dont make new engines any more. Doing a good rebuild is basically giving you a new engine. (if you get new housings and apex and everything) Also you can port it and do what ever mods you wish. Don't rebuild I Don't care... haha just don't be confused when a cavalier kicks your butt.

did someone say street-port?

hurleysurf24 10-24-07 03:12 PM

so let me get this straight

you raced someone in there quick sunfire :lawlz:
you sped down a street at 120mph
you got pwned

irresponisbly stupid if you ask me ... meh

Lateralus23 10-24-07 03:15 PM

It was quick for my slow ass 7 haha.
and I got pwned in the sense that she could keep up with me...
keep your little panties on ladies, it's not like it was down a main street.

I don't know why anyone would want someone to die....

flamin-roids 10-24-07 03:17 PM

I had a foot race with my girlfriend in the 7-11 parking lot. We lined up by the gas pump. I got the jump on her (manpower>girlpower) and pulled about 6 or 7 steps on her. By the time we got to the door I hit about 15mph (governed).

LMFAO, i was thinking that for awhile now till you asked it. I bet it is, he is a very creative, intelligent guy.

nitronatefc 10-24-07 03:38 PM

:bsflag:

Im raising the flag for two reasons:
1) My girlfriend's old 1999 sunfire was governed at 108mph, as were any other speed governed chevrolets that year. Maybe the newer ones have a higher limit, but even so......
2) Any road with a stoplight can't have a speed limit of more than 55mph. You expect me to believe that a girl (no offense ladies, keep reading) alone in her car raced down the road next to you traveling AT LEAST 65 mhp over the speed limit??? I don't know any women that are that stupid.

The only thing I do belive that a slow ass NA RX-7 will lose to almost any vehicle 18 years newer than it.

Lateralus23 10-24-07 03:56 PM

There's two kinds of girl drivers...ones that are afraid of driving and go 10miles below the speed limit, and then there's the ones that don't give a crap and drive like maniacs...im usually the one that tells her to slow down lol. I just got the damn car and i wanted to see what it could do. It's not like I think im in the fast and the furious.

AR Rotary 10-24-07 04:08 PM

Keep making statements like this and you'll make LOTS of friends around here. We like peolpe who have complete disregard for the safety of everyone around them and are totally nonchalant when they get called out on it. Take this BS to the lounge.

I dated a girl with a '03 Cobra for a few weeks. That bitch was crazy! We went to wendover and she was doing 160 the whole way! Luckily I didn't die. It turned a 90 minute drive into a 45 minute one however.

mothy 10-24-07 04:39 PM

get over it, everyones safe, just be a little more careful :D

flamin-roids 10-24-07 04:46 PM

Yeah really. Here its only 10 bucks to run on the drag strip. They only do it every other week and during the summer but its not like a RX7 was built for winter racing. I'd rather wait than die.

WRONG.

Neither you or anyone else here is a god behind the wheel. I hate to keep picking at an open wound but if you do a little reading HERE:

https://www.rx7club.com/west-rx-7-forum-193/%2A%2A%2Asad-news%2A%2A%2A-dave-guitarjunkie28-passed-away-today-1-30-07%2A%2A%2A%2A-619141/

you may see the error of your ways. You can race your car up the street 100's of times and never have a problem but it only take ONE mistake to kill you and very possibly kill an innocent bystander(s). GuitarJunkie was a well respected member of this community and I really hope his death helps keep others from making his mistake.

kungfuroy 10-24-07 05:00 PM

Sell your car
With your mindset, dont come to any of the local SoCal meets, we dont take kindly to idiots on the streets. Watch the news latley? There were 2 incidents in the last month where innocents were killed.

mothy 10-24-07 05:11 PM

1. i didnt say i was god
2. you guys are giving this guy too much shit.
3. you guys should be welcoming and helpful instead of cynical and just being plane assholes.
4. i don't drive like that on the streets, nor do i want to risk my life for having 10 seconds of fun.
5. its all about having fun, and being safe at the same time.

Serious? I noticed it from the first day you had it... I hate it because I always confuse you with Aaron Cake.. lol. My brain mixes up pictures and words apparently.. I'm dumb.

So... EVERYBODY on here has sped on city streets.. EVERYBODY.... He's probably young.. everybody does it when they are young.. That doesn't make it right, but it still happened... I don't do it any more, but i have done it more than once.. I had the common sense to do it with nobody around and I'm assuming (hoping) the OP did too. Let it go.

OP. You aren't going to do this on public streets now that you know how dangerous it is.... right? RIGHT!

Get yourself a rebuild+street port. It'll cost you a pretty penny... but it'll be worth it. Even more worth it would be to find a lowish-mileage TII. Or even a lowish mileage S5.. or even an already rebuilt S4.... Money is money..... car is a car.. sell what you can to get what you can. Unless you are overly attached to your 86NA. :)

mothy 10-24-07 05:29 PM

like me for example, i was gonna get rid of my GTUs and just buy a tII, but i found that i was way too attached to my GTUs so im putting a tII in my GTUs, its costing me a lot more than it would have to just buy a tII though : /

Be sure that you and your girlfriend don't reproduce. We don't want any more road-racing minions cruising the streets.

I bet ya if I pulled up on the streets beside any of ya e-holes on the streets and revved my engine , half of you naysayers would race me. Sometimes the crap you guys spew is amazing, ACTING like you never raced in the street. Shame on you. Get over it.
Yeah I said it ,WHAT?:fawk:

Jpk3200 10-24-07 09:28 PM

Maybe a 3rd gear pull by myself, but not going 120+ against another person with traffic.

I do not mean to be an asshole but my wife is a nurse and the stories she hears from other nurses not to include the couple incidents my wife has experienced first hand are horrible. PEOPLE striaght up die from this shit just because of the disrespect for a cars abilty to turn into a killer.

Or 7's our simply CARS. They are not the fastest machines on earth, they do not make your social stature grow ten fold once we obtain them nor does it want to prove anything to anyone.

thats what I was thinking, I have beat a few cars in my n/a that should have taken me only because I was a better driver. I used to do alittle street racing around town a long time ago. Now I find myself on open country roads testing my abilities.

Tweakgames........your the guy who switched hoods at the bbq last summer right?

RDAVEX7 10-24-07 11:10 PM

Murry......when I was a kid I my step dad was a California Highway Patrol Officer and he had pictures up in a closet of kids my same age at the time that had been in crash's. Those were the worst pictures I have ever seen.

ok i know i am going to get bitched at for this, but where in the aforementioned thread does it say GuitarJunkie was street racing??? it doesn't!! all it says is that he was driving down a mountian road and had a head on collision with a van!! was there ever any conclusive proof that he was speeding??? i mean everyone here would get f***ed if they had a head on with a VAN!! i dont want to detract from the obvious tragedy that has befallen our rotary community but it reads in that thread that he was DRIVING and had an ACCEDENT!! i am sorry if i may have offended anyone! and if i am wrong and read something wrong in that thread please correct me!! i am the first to say i am wrong!!

like others have said street racing is a deadly act that should not be tolerated! i can honestly say i speed everywhere i go, not to drastic extreams like 120 or whatever but like 5-10 over the posted speed limit. i know it is wrong but if you go by he letter of the law 1 mph over is a ticketable offense!

sorry again for offending any of GuitarJunkie's friends! may he be driving in heaven in a rotary powered charoit!!

Hans
