Got 1st kill while street tuning

Okay, so here's the story....... (short version)

Bought my 2nd FD almost 2 years ago. Had been in storage so long that the rebuild needed a rebuild. Then shitty custom wiring of Haltech etc made it run like ***, so we pulled all the wiring and put in a Power FC. Ran well for the first time last Mon, drove it this Mon-Thurs to break it in, took to Gotham for dyno tuning.

EXCEPT.... ******* giant thunderstorms knocked out the power. And I fly out of DFW at 7am. SO..... end up street tuning w/ Steve Kan riding shotgun with his laptop plugged in..... making good boost patterns, good power on a local minor highway.

On the way back we're finishing the tune by boosting in 4th, when a black Ford Lightning shows up next to me out of nowhere. Steve looks over, notices the boost gauge and other stuff, mentions it's not stock, and says I need to punch it anyway for the tune.

So we both drop the hammer and I walked him pretty easily. Good feeling. After we drop it off, he pulls up next to me and gives me a friendly wave, then moves ahead to catch up to traffic. Always appreciate a good sport.

Anyways, about an hour after we got back the power FINALLY came back on, so we threw it on the dyno and I put down 343 at the wheels (final issue was no ignition amplifyer, it was sputtering at high boost. I ended up getting one before I left and putting it in, so now the HP is ligher.)

Oh, I'm in a 93 FD, street port, T-66, and a bunch of other crap thats too long to list right now.

It was a good time, good tune, good kill, and my FD is FINALLY ******* RUNNING, and RUNNING WELL!

Hehe,

Good times man!

Nobody will race me here in England, hopefully I'll run into an Exige or Noble that has a driver up for some fun before too long..

Good kill, what boost were you running? Your numbers seem a bit low for a single turbo.

I tuned it to 14psi. We have a mustang dyno at the shop. The numbers are lower than dynojet. If you really want to compare dynojet dyno #'s, add 5-10% of the measurement.

those numbers would be 360-ish on a dynojet...

yea, that sounds about right. I totally forgot that the car was only tuned to 12psi. When upping the boost to 14psi, the ignition was breaking up and only made 308rwhp. We never actually see numbers.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand.....

here's Steve!

Yeah, I had never dealt with the ignition breaking up before, it was a new thing... but the car is set to 10 PSI with the Profec off and 12 with it on.... I'm being conservative b/c as soon as it gets on the boat to come to Hawaii, I won't have Gotham and RP at my convenient disposal.... no rotary specialty shops out here.
