FD vs Skyline

I'm not much of a storyteller... But:

I was at the hobby shop this afternoon putting in my HKS Twin Power when I ran into one of the guys from work who drives a Skyline (I wanna say it's an R34, definitely NOT a GT-R, can't say for sure though. It is a turbo). He was about to wash his car and I was almost done getting everything installed so we shot the **** for a minute.

End of story, or so I though...

After I left base and had pulled onto the highway I noticed a pair of headlights bearing down on me, quick, so I pulled into the slow lane to let the other person pass (was going 75-80mph at that point). Turns out, it was the guy I had been talking to earlier with a buddy along for the ride.

We ran parallel to each other for a little while, finally we had a mile or two of clear road in front of us. We started our first run at about 60 mph or so. I dropped a gear and launched on him, pulling a couple car lengths ahead of him before tapping the brakes and slowing down. Round two we were both ready and it was a little closer, but I still pulled on him by a decent margin. At this point we came up on a little bit of traffic, slowed down and got in line to pass the lorry (tractor trailer) and went at it again once we were clear.

The third (and last) time he launched just before me, getting ahead enough that his rear bumper was about even with my front. I dropped into third (going about 65-70mph) and floored it. First his advance slowed, then stopped, and I fired past him like a sling shot with the shift into 4th.

It was nice to run into him on a (mostly) empty freeway with no speed camera's (like stationary police w/ radar detectors) all in all it was pretty damn fun!

After the last run we came up to a decent sized round-about with a gas station off to the side. I signaled that I was pulling in and he followed me in. We shot the **** as I stood outside shivering in my T-shirt (happened to be wearing my RX-7club shirt, of all things!), mainly all he had to say about the runs was that he was surprised and pretty impressed.

Now he wants to take a ride in the 7 ^_^

I will be racing an R34 GT-T very shortly myself. Do you know if he was stock? I want to know how I stack up against on of these suckers.

Thanks guys, I'll see about getting some pictures (will have to wash my car and wait for a day w/o rain though.. good luck of that on this damn island!)

Fd3s4e, I'm not sure what lvl of modification he is sitting at. I know he has a cat-back in, though other than that I suspect he is pretty close to stock (still running .7bar at full spool). He said something about getting a front mount put in sometime in the future and some other stuff (think upgraded turbo and turning up the boost). Though honestly I don't know if it will be enough since I am waiting on a pair of BNR's to arrive along with some more fuel system goodies, at which point I'll be turning up to 15-16psi and adding a straight mid-pipe.

There is a GT-R on my base with at least the basic H/I/E and I think a reflash that I wanna play with. He only runs on tracks though.

My last Godzilla encounter was last Saturday. A Silver R33 GTR. I was in the Jeep, coming home form Chicago. I rolled even with him and gave him the thumbs up, and he returned the thumb, and took off.

Well, at least you have somewhat of a shot at running into one of those up there! I've seen a few running around here but yet to run one...from what I hear its like a supra, it depends on what they have.

Good kill! lol

I had a 92 FD when I was in Japan with very few mods (FMIC, Boost controller, Cold air intake, Straight piped). And My buddy had a R32 WS-4 ( all wheel drive RB25 Turbo, straight piped). from a stop he had no problem with popping his clutch so he had me off the line. I closed in on his after 2nd gear but he pulled away in the end. So i guess depending on your mods it will be close.

theres a skyline in jacksonville. no idea which one, i think the owner claims r33 gtr. anyway, it looks kinda bad, and wasnt kept very clean inside or out. I would love to run him just for fun! i have a sneaking feeling, id have a pretty good chance, given the condition of his car. aesthetics often reflect the overall condition of the vehicle, including the engine. just my opinion.

I believe the GT-T has the RB25DET which is rated at 250hp stock, so if you are both stock it will be close, but I think the RX-7 could pull in the end. But those motors are capable of lots of power, so if he is modified then I hope you are too...let us know the outsome!
