New from SoCal!
Greetings all!
My name is Spenser.I have been away from the car scene for a couple years but found a great rx-7 and had to pull the trigger on it. I'm excited to start working on my 7, familiarizing myself with the car, and losing sleep from reading the endless info on these beautiful cars. On-to the pics! Pic I snapped today while getting it smogged. http://25.media.tumblr.com/aedf07de7...66ulo1_500.jpg My other car 78' 280z. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8440/7...48060a91_z.jpg My old STI http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2335/5...2a0098c1_b.jpg Thanks for reading, Spenser [suspense] |
What happened to the Sti?
|
nice which part of california?
|
The STI was taking too much of my monthly expenses, simply wanted to live more comfortably rather than check to check.
I'm located in socal, la habra to be exact. I met someone named Jeff at a local best buy that owned an fd talking about some meets so I hope to attend some soon. |
Love the fc, specialy with those rims, what year is your fc?
|
nice looking car - i used to have a 91T. you pick it up local in socal?
|
Hey Spenser, welcome aboard!
Now congratulations on making me seriously doubt on what wheels I should get for my FC. Those XXR's look really good on yours, so I'm in quite a split between deep-lip mesh wheels or super-concaves like those 527's. Thought I had my mind made up a bit by now, and then you came along >< Loving the way she sits man, proper good job. Anyways, enjoy your time here on the forum, and I bet we'll be seeing eachother 'round these here parts often! |

If you don't mind me asking where are the meets around and how often? I just picked up an Fd and want to meet some new people:)

It's an 88, the previous owner put the S5 on them but one of them has some condensation so I will be replacing them when I can.
Yeah, it was a local pick up about 30 mins from my house. Thanks for the warm welcome. Yeah I love the concave look to the 530's, I also had 527's on my STi which I really liked. I think I'll actually be going the other route you're thinking, some type of deep dish mesh or any sort of deep dish frankly. Thanks again! Not sure about meets yet, I still don't have internet at my house [reason for the slow replies] but I know of some Cars and Coffee in Irvine, but I can't remember how often they meet up. Thanks guys, hope to see you around soon! Thanks for replying though! Hopefully I'll see you around, since I'm kind of close to La Habra |

You are welcome.
That's cool though, because it saved you from spending money to make the repairs and upgrades needed to get your FC to where it is now. And with low mileage on a stock engine you totally won on your purchase. Congratulations again! |

Silly Andy! I'm not Mr. Sevenstock, that title goes to Bern.
I'm just the CFO, logistics coordinator, and another 'anything else that has to get done' do'er. LOL! Nice to meet you Spenser. Maybe you can bring your FC around to the Puente Hills Mazda meet tomorrow. -Jeff |
Welcome! From L.A. originally.

Welcome love the fc and the rims they look sweet
|
Just joined myself. Looking at the picture in your intro, when the smog tech saw that big exhaust pipe, I'd bet the smog tech spent a little more time checking out your car. :)
|
Love black and gold!

-- The car has been serviced and taken care of at RRR in Santa Ana and I'm ready to hit up some meets. I'll be attending the Puente Hills Mazda meet this next month, hope to see some guys there! |

Nuff said  |
I have thought about living in California but the smogg test is scaring me away. I would only live their if I could take my FD with me but am worried it will not pass. I am not familiar with the regulations but are there any serious hoops you have to go through to pass your car?
|
yea ur pulling off the 530s real good

I can't wait to get my vert running decent enough so I can take it to RRR and have a diagnostic dyno pull and base a/f ratio, boost tune.

That sounds like a good idea, I almost wish I had a turbo but the 13b NA is enough for now. Hopefully a real turbo swap is in the future.
If you can, keep your na FC and buy a turbo RX7, or buy another na FC to swap in a 13B T, keep your na FC na. |

Yes, stay na. The only reason I went turbo is because I fried my 6 port (not on purpose, burst oil cooler hose). I was looking for a reason to go turbo and that was my reason and opportunity .
If you can, keep your na FC and buy a turbo RX7, or buy another na FC to swap in a 13B T, keep your na FC na. My main goal out of all of this is to learn about the cars and rotaries so that I can one day have a track monster FD (talking years from now) unless mazda gives us a new rx-7  that would be where the turbo comes into play. Really debating about selling the 280z to feed my new found love. Thanks for the advice too! |
black and gold are my colors! nice

Welcome and thanks for stopping by.
I want to keep the FC NA until I have a reason (like you) to make it turbo. Power will be last any who, Suspension mods are on their way, and I'll be needing to rebuild the transmission soon too (got some grinding). Great plan to learn more about RX7's and RE's in general. When you start working on your FC you will love RE's and RX7's even more . I am waiting for the new RX7 to drop too!! I am saving now for a nice healthy down payment. Keep your Z, it's pretty clean, my brother owned a few Z's 1969 240, 1971 240 and a 280. I liked the power band and power to weight ratios on the Z's very fun cars to drive . But if you need to make a sacrifice...then do what you have to do :(. |

I was planning on saving up for something newer but this car is going to eat my wallet for a while :( Definitely a fun car to drive and it's nice to have two working timeless cars to drive around. I just want to keep throwing money at my rx7 now, but we'll see. I probably won't let the Z go, it's tempting though :P |
Good to hear you have taken to the RE and RX7, the smooth, high revving engine does have an addicting feel and sound .
And for sure you will be spending a lot of money on your RX7, it's just a natural habit . Racing Beat is a good place to start spending some of your hard earned money, quality parts that really make a difference. Keep us posted on your progress. |

I actually just ordered Corksport headers, DTSS eliminators and Bönez 2.5" Race Pipe. Not sure if I should make a build thread since I won't be 'building' as I'm taking my time with mods. |
Bleh that's a nice 280! One of my favorite cars :D
|
Yes please by all means start a "Build Thread"! That what most of us members like to see (at least I do).
Good choice on your first aftermarket parts purchase. I bought a Turbo Intake Pipe from Cork Sport and plan on buying more intake parts and other parts. |
