New to RX7 Club! Where to start with modifications?

Hey there!

I am new to the world of RX7s! I hail from Los Gatos, CA (for you Californians, that's south bay area). I'd love to meet any of you local RX7 owners! I hardly see any RX7s driving around here. I'm 17, and I am going to be a senior at Los Gatos High School. I'll also be the only person there who drives an RX7!

I am very soon to be the owner of an 87 base luxury model FC! (whatever the trim code is) I'm just waiting for my friend who owns it to return from japan in august!

here is the best picture i have, it's the one on the right:

It's in great mechanical and aesthetic condition. It has about 80k miles, and was rebuilt at 75k, so i am very lucky to have such a fresh engine to work with. the body and interior look great as well, so there isn't anything that I will have to put money into. It is almost 100% stock! the bumper might need a little attention, but its not too hard to fix or replace.

I was wondering where most people start with modifying their car? what are some less expensive mods that people start with? what is really popular?

I'm not really crazy for power, so i was thinking of doing more cosmetic mods than mechanical ones at first. I do have definite plans for lowering it in the future, but that is a ways away before i have the $1500 its probably going to take.

hi and welcome, if the car is completely stock start with the basics: intake, exhaust, down pipes and replacing the exhaust manifold. it will give you a lil bit more horse power, is not hard to do and is not that expensive. good luck and have fun

Welcome to the family.

Here is something you can start with, https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-gen-archive-72/2nd-gen-projects-thread-608165/ always look at the projects, contribute if you have any constructive ideas and you can learn the tools to apply to your future car.

Good luck. :D

thanks for the advice! does a downpipe go in a N/A car? I thought that was only for turbos.

pointless to modifiy a NA car.
it's call header and hp gain vs dollar spent is not much.
save up for turbo or other power plant.
remember it's a heavy car so spent the money to make it look good
it'll need alot of hp to go fast which means alot of money.

that's an awfully pessimistic way to look at it. I'm not looking to make the fastest FC out there. i mainly want it to corner well, horsepower can come later down the road.
