NV New to Everything

Hi this is Antonio from Reno NV. I am a Mazda fan. I have a couple Mazda automobiles. According to the VIN decoder tool I have a Mazda RX-7 2dr Couple GS 5-spped. I have no knowledge about this car and this will be my first car project ever. It has been sitting in the back yard for many years and definitely missing parts. Recently it was passed to me in efforts to rescue this car. Looking forward to get help from this community. If you have more information about this car and suggestions on how to start please share. I will appreciate any help.

Best Regards

Welcome to the forum!

My brother started from a similar position last fall. I think he started with a new battery, pulled the plugs tried to crank it over to see if the engine was seized or not to start. He then checked compression, when that checked out he started draining all the fuel which lead to a new tank and pump...Just saying, that is probably going to be a similar path. GL!

Welcome to the forum. Any pictures of your car to share? A VIN decoder will not tell you what trim level you have, but its more than likely a GS. What year is the car?

Lack of Information

Here are some pictures of the car. The challenge is that there is no information about the car, no sure what was wrong with it or how long has the car been sitting, there is no title or any documentation available. This is the thing, I am not sure if the lack of information and my limited experience will turn this project into a nightmare. What are your thoughts?
There were some parts in the back.

I would suggest sorting out the title/ownership problem first. If you can't register and insure it, kinda no point in going any further.

Agreed with above. If you put ANY money into this and it's not able to be legally yours, you're throwing money in the trash can.

Shaved handles are a little strange.
Looks to be an 84 or 85.
How long has that sunroof panel been off the car? I'd start poking around for rust issues before you get too far into anything else. This one might turn out to be a parts car in the end.

Thank you for sharing the pictures! The factory sunroof was not available on an S or GS trim level in 85. You either have an 84 GS or an 85 GSL. The seats are GS seats. Does the car have power windows or rear disc brakes?
