Just rescued a FD
Hey guys, my name is Matt Downey. Im from the Detroit-metro area of Michigan. Recently, I rescued a '93 rx7 from a junkyard in Detroit, they were going to crush her :( . I asked the owner of the junkyard if I could buy the car and he said yes, so now I own one of my realistic dream cars. I plan to just fix the car up, it needs A LOT of work, but it will be exciting. Im new to the whole "rotary scene," I'm still a piston type of guy lol. The car is about 85% there, so Ill be needing parts, Im looking forward to meeting some rx7 people and learning more about these cars, thanks :icon_tup:

Great Work
I am a current owner of a 1988 Rx7 Turbo and love rotary engines! I am looking to build an FD the exact same way you are and hope to follow you in your build. In my opinion building it from the ground up will be a pain but you will have the best chance at building it the way you want with the parts you want.
Best of luck, Marco |

Parts for you
FYI living in LA i have access to lots of rotary shops, one of which is Lucky Seven Racing. They have thousands of used parts at their shops that are available for sale, if you want their info and need parts they are fantastic!

How's ur car now man got pic of how it sits and good job at the save man. Some yards say no to selling the car out right I'm glad u saved it
What was wrong with it? Why wasnt it running?
750....Best find ever for the money $$$$$$
I concluded that the car was stolen. Busted drivers window/door handle/lock, the ignition was all cut up and busted out. The car didn't have keys so I bought a used ignition cylinder and door locks with keys. I put a the ignition on and had to rewire the ignition harness, then the car cranked but no spark. So then I found a bunch of chewed up wires from mice in the engine bay (car has been sitting since 08 I believe) I fixed those wires and she fired right up

nice find!

rescuing a dream to build a dream....its like a dream coming true inside a dream. you will definitely complete your car as this site is rotary info heaven.
$750 for a car that runs and drives is one hell of a deal. Very good find.
pass side looks pretty nice, driver's side could use some body work but nothing an old dent puller and some bondo can't fix :)
That is so cheap and a great car to save
Wow, thats a steal, especially since the engine works and runs.
Im looking at picking up a FD with a mint body, but no engine/trans or differential for 600$ locally. Im pretty sure its a good deal, but I must admit, with the interior and engine in yours, you put my good deal to shame haha. All the best with your build ! |
Great deal for a running fd, the body really doesn't look that bad for a wrecker car, glad se another rx7 saved from the crusher, good job.
Which junkyard was this at? I haven't seen it at either parts galore.
PS welcome! and check out Michigan Rotary Club - Index |
That junkyard must be on drugs because the engine alone (given its not smoking or low compression)in that car is worth at least $2000.
You scored big time. Rotary >Pistons |
glad you saved it!
What the fuck! I'm so incredibly jealous right now. I'm going around every local junkyard and hoping to find a nice project car, or at least some Crown Vics.
You are going to need a lot of parts, but at least you are way ahead with only paying $750 for a car that is complete enough to start up. People pay a lot more for just a rolling chassis. It is surprising that the yard did not pull the engine, typically that is one of the first things the more organized yards do.
If you like body work this is certainly a car that will keep you busy. |
Wheels helped a lot! :)Thats the great thing about the FD, even all fucked up like that its still an awesome looking car!
You are lucky i did not walk thrum parts galore, buddy.. But any way.. I don't need any more antique cars..
Chip U |
Thanks guys. I already acquired about 90% of the parts for the car. I need to do a lit of work though, but in the end Iwill have a mint condition and pretty bad ass car for about 3-4k :)
good work :)
Not bad at all for a junk yard find. I've only ever seen two in the scrap yards here and all that was left was the frame.
i wish i had time to put into a car. i'd do the same thing.
Great job
Nice find!
Awesome find man, good luck with the restoration.
