TX Hello

Greetings all,

I'm Brandon. I recently inherited my Dad's 94 RX-7 touring in montego blue. I'm currently on military deployment and have not been able to make a solid assesment of what condition the car is in. I know that he drove it very little and took decent care of it, but, I know it's not in tip top shape. I'll be searching the forum for information, and will post some questions from time to time.

In a nutshell, my goal for the car is to make it look mostly brand new stock. I'm not going to race it. I don't want any crazy body kits or 5 point seats etc. I do want the engine and suspension to be solid, but, I'm not necessarly looking for 500hp. Between my daily driver and motorcycle, I have all the utility and speed I want. I want the RX-7 to be an occasional drive that Dad would be proud of.

I hope I don't sound boring, but, I like the car the way it is.

I would like some recomendations for good, trusted, RX-7 mechanics in the Austin, Tx. area, please. If nothing else, than to get a good baseline of where the car is at in its present condition.

Thanks!

Hello again! I haven't spent much time on the car in the last year... I've been away for a long time. I did have the car taken to MZM Performance in Austin. We did an engine swap, one of the turbos replaced, replaced radiator, removed down pipe. The car runs beautifully! Now it's time for the other stuff.

First... The A/C doesn't do it's job. It blows, but, not cold and it's humid.

Chances are you'll just need to refresh your A/C. Obviously pressure test the system for leaks. Good to have ya back.

From one central/south Texan to another - it is easy for a guy in Chicago to say roll down the windows.

There are lots of posts on here about AC maintnence.
Since your car came with R12 you will need to make a decision to keep it using R12 or convert it.
R12 is expensive so make sure that whoever work on this is very through in making sure the system has no leaks. That is an important first step.

Thanks for the tip! MZM told me the conversion had already been done. I'm going to try a recharge.

I must sound like a noob. I assure y'all, I'm pretty mechanically savvy. I'm an aircraft electrician for the Navy and I do all my own motorcycle work. I'm just not that familiar with cars... yet.
