Female racer/drifter :D

Hi! I'm Brandella and I LOVE Mazdas and racing/drifting! I bought a fc from my friend to build for race car, I ended up wanting to turn it into a drift car as of now. I already pulled the [carbon locked] na engine, tranny, drive shaft, [totally rusted] exhaust, gutted the interior, and I'm about to pull the diff to weld it. I wanted to put a rew in it but I kept reading that it was a huge pain to put it into a s4 chassis /= Then decided on a s5 t2 :D I just need to find an engine now. I'll post pictures later, I've been more concentrated on the build than documenting it right now =P

Mazda.doll 05-22-12 02:52 PM

Thanks for the support guys!!
To answer some questions, I am located in West Knoxville.
I am one of the main coordinators of east10drift and the only female (As far as I know) in the whole east tn drifting scene.

Here's the story on my 7:
I bought a '87 FC from my friend, who said the engine was carbon locked, but I put little to no effort into making it turn because I had bigger plans for it (:
I pulled the engine, trans, dshaft, diff, subframe, hubs, suspension, etc lol It was literally a shell on four jack stands. Gutted the entire interior too.
I drove over 6 hours east to buy a t2 motor, trans and dshaft.
Later then drove 2 hours south to buy a t2 lsd, 5 lug and t2 brakes.
In the span of about 3 days me (and a few amazing friends) put the engine, trans, dshaft, lsd, 5 lug, brakes, suspension, wheels, mazdaspeed seats in.
I was attempting to get her ready for the drift event we had Saturday, but a fuel problem got in the way and she had to sit this event out. ): I have ordered some injector connectors and hoses, so I hope she'll be up and running soon!

Sorry for the delay on the reply guys, I've been crazy busy with this build!
Rotaryyyyy Pooowwweerrr soon!

8064r7 05-23-12 10:45 AM

Good to hear. Wish I had the time and availability to devote even 3 whole hours to pulling and purchasing for my FB.

djseven 09-25-12 04:28 PM

You have two local rotary shops within a hour of you. Rotaryresurrection.com and addictedperformanceunltd.com

I don't take customer work anymore but those two shops could help you with any engine needs.

Akagis_white_comet 09-25-12 05:02 PM

Is the engine you put in it a S4 or S5T2? Swapping a S5T2 engine into a S4 car seems to be a pain in the butt because of the stock N370 ECU's pinout being different from the N330/N333 (electronic OMP, no quick-spool actuator and a couple other things). FWIW, the S5's OMP is VERY expensive to replace with a brand new one if it fails (and puts the car into Limp Mode as a result).

If this happens to your car, my advice would be to put the ~$1500 in a Haltech or other suitable EMS and possibly convert to premixing. IMO, the S4 chassis is much easier to give a standalone than the S5 because they changed quite a few things in the S5's wiring diagram. I'm not too familiar with the S5, but checking the https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generati...faq-fc-494667/ and downloading the wiring diagrams would answer any questions that would come up.

My 20B-REW S4 was surprisingly easy to retrofit with a Haltech PS2000 standalone EMS as everything that the Haltech would control was originally in the Emission Harness that came out with the old engine. The only thing that wasn't there was the wire for the Coolant Gauge Sender (rear iron, driver's side), but it wasn't too hard to integrate. With my swap, the original alternator wiring went with the old engine but it wasn't an issue since I'm using a 130A Taurus Alternator.

If you haven't already done this, the first modification you should do once the car is running is a FD Alternator. It is entirely bolt-on & plug&play in a S5, only needing a pulley such as #11480 from MAZDATRIX for Mazda RX7, RX8, Rotary Engine Parts and Accessories. This was the first modification I ever did and it made a world of difference.

ROCKNROLLA562 09-25-12 06:35 PM

djseven- thanks for the shops really helped me out

thisisstupid 09-28-12 12:23 AM

there is a company in Tennessee that sells rx7 parts and does alot of work. it is rotary resurrection. is this the company that you are using to get all of your parts?

1hatchi 09-30-12 09:07 AM

Welcome to the club. I haven't drifted in TN in years. I was stationed at Ft. Campbell,Ky for a while and we would just find parking lots to tear up.

Mazda.doll 09-30-12 11:45 AM

Oh my! I'm surprised by the response of this thread.. I finally have a few pictures of my fc but she's not finished.. yet :D

I made sure I went with a s4 t2 to make it easier on me lol
I want to build my own 20b, any suggestions or helper threads?

Doing a 20B Conversion is probably the most involved project one can do with a FC or FD. The best advice I can give you about it is to read my build thread: https://www.rx7club.com/build-thread...tormas-888195/. It will give you a better understanding of what one realistically faces with a 20B Conversion, from the perspective of a rather green owner that wanted to learn. Nearly every part in my build was acquired at a discount and the rest was plain old ingenuity to tie everything together. This is the reason why I say a 20B RX7 is EARNED.

There are a few people who offer 20B engines here, but you REALLY need to be careful who you deal with. One well-known forum vendor recently scammed two members out of $2200 and $2100 each on engines for their FDs. Details are in the Feedback Section. Two shops I can recommend getting a 20B from are Banzai Racing (Banzai Racing Home Page) and Defined Autoworks (GTORX7. is their username here). For parts such as gaskets, I generally go through Atkins Rotary (Atkins Rotary - Rx7 | Rx8 | Mazda | Rotary | Engine | Parts). Kevin Landers (Rotary Resurrection) is another great source for parts that I've had consistently good results with (including pulling a couple ebay auctions for me, major props there), although he doesn't stock 20B parts that I am aware of.
