My name is Tom McCann, I recently purchased a 1983 RX-7 GSL with 42000 original miles, 12A. Bought in MSP and drove it home, cleaned it up thoroughly and ended up with a head turning car. Not many RX-7's on the road near Detroit...I get a lot of thumbs up as well as a few "you're number 1" salutes!

A gem! I thought I was lucky when i just got a 1 owner 85 with 123k. It looked damn good til I just saw yours. Still does, actually. Just not as good. Enjoy!

Now if I could find a shop to help out with the things I can't do. Even the local Mazda dealership won't touch it!

I was very fortunate to find it. I flew to MSP to pick it up then drove it back to Michigan. Pulled out the seats and gave the car a thorough steam cleaning. Wiped down everything inside and cleaned and waxed the exterior. A couple weeks back I bought Turtle Wax Black Box which made the black paint pop. The original wheels are in rough shape and I haven't had any luck finding aftermarket wheels to fit it (I would love to find a set of original wheels in great shape). The gentleman who sold it to me was nice enough to have the oil changed and fluids checked before I picked it up. Just turned 43000 miles yesterday.

Hardly ever see another 1st Gen RX7 on the road near Detroit...

 

Keep some Mystery oil or such in your gas and be kind, you wont have much to do unless you want to. The folks here can help you do things you don't think you can do. And you'll find wheels. When you least expect to.

Thats a great looking 1st gen im glad im finding people near my area! There is a guy in toledo with a set of 1st gen wheels for 50 bucks im unsure of the condition but they are out there dont give up!

I drove thru Chicago. Got stuck in a monumental traffic jam on the Kennedy Expressway. My sister lives by Lincoln Square near Wrigley Field so I stopped and stayed the night there.

I wanted to go thru the UP but was unsure how well the car would do so I flet it was best to stay in a more populated region.
