Another FC? No way...

So I just picked up my first RX-7 a few days ago from the money from my previous project car that i sold to a friend (a '95 Civic Hatchback). I felt It necessary to sell it due to my fondness towards the RX-7, specifically the older 2nd gen turbo models. However, being from Western New York, finding a turbo FC in running condition is like trying to find a Waffle House up here as well. However, fate gave me a swift kick in the shins and pointed me towards this:

It's a '87 SE (I'm guessing at this point) with a fairly decent body and very good interior.

It originally had the N/A 13b cradled under the hood, but the previous owner had ambitions to do a TII swap. However, he was sold a lemon motor and ended up in the hole. After 2 years of sitting in his garage, he signed the title over to me for $400.

Moving right along, since it had been sitting in a garage for 2 years, I gave it a good scrub inside and out, then grabbed a pen and started seeing what I needed to get it running. Mind you, the brakes and suspension on this Rex are COMPLETELY stock, which is rare enough these days. Aside from the obvious lack of a powerplant, there were several tiny issues:

Typical New York rust.

Some missing trim.

And the fact that it's become a pirate. Yarr.

My ambitions are simple: I plan to finish what the previous owner wanted and dropping in a TII swap. It already has the rear-end from a TII and a few misc. sensors that are needed. With that, I'll be fixing the rust and dropping on a TII hood. After that, I'll be looking into a good set of tires, a high-flow exhaust, and then giving my old hatch a run for its money.

In closing, I'm happy to be here and look forward to getting my Rex up and running. :)

Also, if there are any resources in the WNY area, I'd be very happy with a little assistance when I'm doing the swap.

If only you lived closer to where I am, then I would just drive up there and give you a hand as well as advice, etc.

Arrgh! Me hearties. The Pirate is a good name for your new toy. Will be looking forward to seeing your beast progress from a one eyed landlubber to a sweet sailing cruiser.

Hey

looks like alot of fun. How does your significant other feel about it? cause i know she wouldnt want all your time spent in the car and not with her!! Good Luck

She got a small dose of it when I toyed around with Hondas, but I'm fairly certain she isn't prepared for this. Key word is TOYED. She also doesn't appreciate the fact that I went and named it after my first girl, Tessa. Now she thinks I'm cheating on her. In a way, I kinda am lol.

Come to think of it, Tessa wouldn't be a bad pirate name either.

NICE CAR MAN! I'm looking for a T2 :)

Wow thats a steal for $400! I bought mine for 200 with pretty much no interior or motor. The motor's still in it but the apex seals are shot. Nice car though, and good luck with the swap!

That things clean! Get to work!

Thanks for all the feedback guys.

The TII I'm looking to drop in is from a dealer up in Canada that an old friend of mine has dealt with for the last few years. The problem is it looks like I'll need to go looking for a ECU, harness, and a couple other things to be able to drop it in. It's a shame that none of the junkyards in the area have any FCs sitting around. I'm also throwing around the idea of a FMIC, but I don't think it's necessary yet.

What's a Waffle House lol?

Clean car, I'm in Syracuse/Rochester for college. Theres another silver FC like yours that was up at NYIRP last week with a few friends, who live near you.

Hope to see you around sometime!

you have never heard of a waffle house?? woah.

its just a place that serves food like waffles and pancakes. they are really good. i think they are mainly out on the open road for when truckers need to stop and eat.

I believe that was sarcasm lol.
