”New” RHD FD!

New into the RX-7 world, love it so far. Picked this up over the winter, first I’ve had it out to be able clean it good and enjoy it. Many parts on the way, mainly just odds and ends to small areas that have been neglected. 1992 RHD FD, can’t wait to see how much it drains my wallet in the future!

Oem ++

Nicely done "OEM plus" look. You are close to an end-point many are moving toward.

ecurbd02 05-06-18 11:57 AM

Thanks! My end plan is just to have it look like it “came from the factory” that way. Granted it will have many aftermarket things here and there, I just want it to look like it was made that way in the end

$ for donuts

You are in good position to spend your next $2000 on running reliability and upgrades!

ecurbd02 05-07-18 02:08 AM

That’s what I was thinkin! Def not gonna be a daily driver, but I’m def gonna make a couple changes to improved reliability

Nice dude I’m jelly

LemonSqueeze 05-09-18 02:02 AM

Congrats on the pick up! Heard it's a money pit but it's well worth it haha

ecurbd02 05-09-18 10:09 AM

So far......it’s not cheap lol it wouldn’t be too bad if parts were easy to source, but many being NOS or just difficult to find, makes that 10$ part into a 50$ part...but on the other hand, def worth it!

That thing is a beauty! Where do you live in Ohio? I'm in Columbus.

smboostjunkie 05-09-18 11:44 AM

welcome!

Adicarlo 05-15-18 12:33 AM

White looks so good on these cars.

mazdaverx713b 05-16-18 05:27 AM

Welcome fellow Ohio owner! That surely is a beautiful FD!! Do you know any of the car's history? How's the interior? I like that you are going back to mostly stock.

ecurbd02 05-16-18 08:42 AM

Thanks! I know they sourced it from a private seller in Japan, it was repainted, originally red. The dealer said it had a sun damage and oxidation because it was never garage kept...before me....but there’s not a spot of rust on it and the interior is in great condition, little things here and there, it’s not perfect, but nothing is missing and nothing is cracked/broken, the car is by no means perfect but I felt it was a good start!https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...09b5fa3d2.jpeghttps://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...a0cf556ad.jpeg

Two different seats tho, eventually I’d like to get new, matching seats, but those can be very expensive and for the time being these do just fine, I’m 6’0” and it’s a little tight for me so a new smaller steering wheel may be in the future as well

setupfc3s 05-16-18 12:53 PM

Welcome! I’m a little north of you in stow/kent area

Bronxrican 05-17-18 08:50 AM

Welcome! Nice looking ride, get ready for the "thumbs up" salute as you drive around town.

ecurbd02 05-17-18 07:11 PM

I didn’t realize how well known they were until I drove it around, the first time I had 4 people compliment on it lol

olddog25 05-18-18 08:03 AM

A real beauty. Looks a lot like the car my son and I bought a few months back LOL. I love RHD cars, wish ours was.
Makes me miss having the GTR still (had to sell a few years back).

Congrats on the acquisition.

tkokay 05-18-18 08:41 AM

Looks perfect to me. Funny how the super clean RHD ones coming over are cheaper than USDM in most cases.

ecurbd02 05-18-18 09:56 AM

Thanks guys! ANd I’ve noticed that, I wonder if Itl hurt the usdm market, I just saw a yellow FD with 14k original miles for 22k go up yesterday

strickrothp 05-18-18 04:25 PM

Great looking FD. How difficult was the process to import the car to the US? It might be something I look into in the future

ecurbd02 05-18-18 06:21 PM

Honestly pretty easy, jdm vins are only 17 digits long and everyone who asked for the vin usually follows up with “that’s it?” but using the correct importer they provide you with all the paperwork necessary to get it titled, so honestly all I did was hand the title agency what the importer gave me and then paid my taxes lol except they have to see the car/vin in person. One thing I learned the hard way is, don’t buy it unless there is a very accurate description of the car, INCLUDING the flaws, find a company with great communication (mine took days and multiple emails/ voicemails to get back to me- no bueno) if u have to pry information out of the company then there’s a reason, def see it in person prior to purchase (I did not). Overall I got lucky with a solid car but there are def some things I look at and scratch my head wondering how it wasn’t addressed before being sent to me, fixable but they def add up (said issues were not brought to my attention before sale)

ecurbd02 05-18-18 06:22 PM

Also I could only get insured through hagerty, my insurance (State Farm) would not insure, not exactly sure why though, just said they couldn’t do it
