tan to black suede FD interior project

I am in the process of recovering my tan interior panels in black micro suede. I know its not for everyone but ive always really liked suede interiors. Here are some pictures of parts I have completed so far:

kick panel

sunroof panel

door panel

and some installed pictures

Im out of fabric for now but it was only about $30 in fabric to cover everything pictured. I figure I can have every tan piece covered in black micro suede for about $100. I think I may go back and redo the door panels since I had no previous experience and they were the first pieces I did, the last couple turned out alot better as im figuring out what im doing.

Looks good, please tell me this isn't the suede from the fabric stores though, otherwise you'll be doing this again in a few years. I was about to do this myself, until i did a fade test. I had a small piece of microsuede paper clipped to a lamp i have with a fluorescent bulb. Fading was visible withing 2 months. Youn need to buy very high end microsuede or real Alcantara to get proper results

Yep, normal micro suede from the store. Ive heard the aerosol sun protector works really well to preserve the color. I think it might be this stuff:

Did you try anything like that on your test piece?

Or just make sure your windows are well tinted and put up your front window shield when parked outside. I had the gauge hood done by an interior shop and he recommended this.

I think it looks great! Next you should try your hand with a sewing machine and add some red stitching. Keep up the good work and please post pics of the progress.

So how well did the micro suede hold up? Or did you ditch the project? I've wanted to do this for a long time and I have the whole interior out right now so this is the time. I'm just trying to figure out if there is a way to do it without breaking the bank.

Its held up fine but my car is rarely driven and always parked in a garage, so its almost never exposed to the sun for long periods of time. I haven't moved forward with the project at all because I still need to swap to black rear bins and plastics and black carpet before I want to finish the rest of the interior panels.

I have been told that it is but other than track days my car is only out in the sun for a couple hours at a time a handful of times a month, it spends 98% of its time inside a garage so I have not noticed any fading issues.

Its not that hard, it really depends on the fabric. if its thick, and doesnt stretch, it will be a nightmare around super contour'd parts. if it has some elasticity to it, it will stretch better. IMO the best adhesive to use is DAP contact cement, super 77 will loosen in the heat.

I bought some upholstery suede, it definitely is higher quality stuff vs the joanns fabric type stuff. I bought it originally to wrap my dash but then realized it would probably be impossible because of the contours. since the center console was an easy gradual contour i gave it a go. came out good imo. I ripped off the stock covering and foam. used dap contact cement to bond a thin "batting" on the console then covered over that with the suede so it has a "slight plush" feel.

SEM trim paint. just spray it, it works wonders. I have black int and it was a little faded, so i sprayed em, looks great, and for some reason that spray paint smells like strawberries.. smells so good lol, try it out, works wonders and much more cost efficient
