Sub progress

As of NOW the subs are completely finished, but I have yet to update my pics. So... here is the progress. (2) Polk gnx 12" subs with a rockford 4x200 amp. Only running a bridged 400 watts to the subs now.

Well, the specs for my subs are a little smaller than what polk recommends for the gnx 12" 's but the gnx series is based around being able to be used in a wide variety of enclosures. They sound awesome, cant wait to update with some more pics. I was going to try and offer a kit on group buy or maybe some plans for them but they turned out to be too damn hard to let other people enjoy what I got.

Ply wood = no good

it should be made out of MDF, or at least chip board

You want a really dense wood, not ply wood, you will notice a day and night differnce between the two differnt woods

That is plywood you see. Its 1/2" ac plywood. I totally agree with the denser wood idea, but I also did not want to make this thing too heavy. Its also too late to do over. I appreciate the comments, maybe i'll use them if I do it over for some unknow reason

If it helps, the carpet I used is pretty thick.

I also stuffed the box with a type of pillow foam. I have no clue what that does, I was just told to do it by a buddy at Stereo Trends (a local shop).
Do any of you have any knowledge of capacitors and how much they do and dont help?

That depends on a lot of things. 1, if you have an Optima or Exide dry cell battery...dont bother.

If you your car lights dim when your bass hits...get one.

for two 12's a 1 Farad cap should do the trick.

Polyfill? It does 2 things, usually. One, it helps kill resonating waves inside the enclosure. It also is supposed to make the enclosure seem bigger than it actually is to the woofer, similar to an aperiodic membrane.

You don't have the sub enclosure divided? At the very minimum you need a vertical brace that goes between the woofer holes and ties the top to the bottom. The baffle is horribly weak the way it is pictured there and will cause distortion.

There is a brace in there now, I was a last minute decision. It was put in after it was carpeted.

How'd you fit it in through the woofer holes? (because if it did fit through the holes it's prolly not enough)

It fit in by 2 pieces, it would even fit in by one piece. I still had leftover test material from the early stages of the box that fit in there still so I Just slipped it in and sealed it.
You guys! I am also, by no means a professional sound artist. The best quality doesn mean that much to me, whether that be making the box too small, not making it out of the right material, or just plain not researching it before I did it. I wanted 2 12" subs that fit in my hatch with 2 goals in mind, weight and price... that is exactly what I have now. Im pretty happy with the result.
