Spirit-Ring my interior, and new engine bay pics

Just installed some new parts on my R1, to include:

Spirit-R shift knob
Spirit-R shift boot (replica, had a leather one made)
Spirit-R e-brake handle and boot
Cusco Ti front shock tower bar
Super Now water pump and alternator pullies
R-Magic Oil filler Cap
(all the parts removed are up in the FS section)

Everything went without incident except the ebrake handle, it will bolt up but to get it to fit correctly you have to remove the boot collar, which is held on by 12 staples. I then swapped over my usdm ebrake boot collar over and stapled it to the new boot. I'll attach a pic so you can see the difference, the jdm collar is raised on one side and the center console cover won't sit flush.

You'll notice the 'replica' shift boot.....the mazda one is crazy expensive and isn't even real leather, so I had one made by redlinegoods.com. I spec'ed it out to be 1.5 inches shorter than stock b/c of my B&M short shifter and fitment is very good. I did have to use a razor blade to cut slits around the base of the boot to get it to mount to the oem boot surround.

In the third pic you can see the poor fitment of the ebrake boot installed with the jdm collar.

Thanks to my trusty assistant Ryan/Bridgeported12a for shining up my engine bay :icon_tup:

On with the pics!

Another pair of new engine bay pics, and also from earlier in the weekend showing the tight fitment of the shorty air filter (which was cleaned and re-oiled today) with my A-Spec long runner manifold. Last one is how the car currently sits with the Profils.

Last are three shots of the steering wheel I just picked up, a Mazdaspeed Miata wheel which has sharp red stitching which matches the Spirit-R wheel. It doesn't have the small Nardi symbol at the bottom, but I'm going to swap over my Nardi airbag so it should look great once installed and match all the rest of the interior.

Nice job....we have similar taste ;) did you have to order a different red stich from RLG or is the red stich the common red they use for everyone. My knob isnt here yet so im hoping the stiching matches what i have! Ill get pics of mine up some time...cheers

I read the thread title and was like "Durr Wha? Spirit-Ring? Is that like a ring given to spiritual people?"

Pick a color in that engine bay buddy. Black couplers, blue couplers, blue hoses, black hoses... tisk tisk. Go all red for goodness sakes

Supernaut 03-23-09 11:08 AM

I like it. His engine bay looks like AMERICA

Brent Dalton 03-23-09 11:40 AM

Dammit Rich, would you slow down so I can catch up?? You're so selfish! HAHA.

I like that alternator pulley, is that a custom one-off? I also see you did the AST delete...now I know it's OK for ME to do haha.

Looks good Rich, as always!

sinned2545 03-23-09 06:05 PM

I ordered their standard red thread and it matches up pretty well.

Thanks Alberto, I knew you'd approve. It's a more 'mature' interior theme ;)

thanks Eric. No, it's not custom, it's part of the super now kit. AST has been gone for years now.

Rich... You just keep making it look better. The whole red and black theme really looks good with the seats and stitching. I forget if you found some way to polish the alternator cover? I think you plated or coated it? Looks great whatever.

Gordon

Thanks Gordon. It's a chromed alternator cover, really sets off the engine bay I think.

The red is similar, the seats are a bit lighter in color than the paint. I plan to have them recovered in the future.
