Smile Shifter ****

For Info!

Been looking for a shifter **** to replace my OEM which has become pretty scuffed up over the years. I wanted the OEM original design but I have been reluctant to pay the prices they are asking for the OEM and even the replicas from 128 to 170 dollar price range and even the used one going for 50 to 90. I found a shifter on Ebay that looks the same as the OEM with metal threaded insides not the plastic threaded inserts or set screws and it was listed for only 26.00 dollars shipped so I decided what the heck and bought it. It arrived the other day and I was kind of impressed. It has good quality leather with what appears good stitching and does have metal threaded insides. I had to make a fill spacer but other than that it fit like a glove. It was also a little bit larger in diameter and about 1/2 inch larger in height than the OEM . I like the feel of the larger size, seems better shifting, the OEM always seemed a little small to me anyway. Oh yes the shifter is weighted also at about 14oz, little heavier than the OEM maybe that's why it feels better shifting between the gears.

Just thought I would pass this on to anyone interested in a OEM knock off at a reasonable price and quality and do not want to pay the prices for the OEM.

I also happened to buy one of those a few months ago.

A bit larger like mentioned especially around the base.

I think with a redline shift boot it would look a bit more natural as they seem to be a bit wider around the shifter.

It's cheap and good quality but not sure I like the fit. If you like the larger shifter this definately would be a good upgrade

I just got one of these too, from the same ebay seller for $26 shipped. Its not a knock off of a stock shift ****, its oem for a 2g eclipse GSX. The quality is very nice obviously since is a factory part and I love the weight and larger size. I wear XL gloves, if you have smaller hands you may find it too big. The thread depth is similar to the stock one and I notice no change in height when installed. It is thicker at the bottom but I think it looks fine and the fitment with a stock boot doesn't bother me.

I got the same **** as well. It is a little loose since fully threaded the **** isn't straight so I just need the spacer to make it tight. Great replacement option!

Which One fits?

Looks like there are several on the site.

Which one(s) are the right thread, didn't see any reference Mazda or RX7.

Thanks,

Yeah, if you can find the 5-speed one I'd say go with the RX-8 ****.

They are all the same, its an oem gsx ****, it just happens to have the same thread pitch as the FD and all those other cars you see listed in the titles of his ebay auctions.

Definitely money well spent! I like mine alot, but I also have to make a little spacer to get it to stay tight.

Why not get a mazdaspeed ****? They are leather and are just about the same size as oem, plus their like $120 new.

I personally didn't feel like spending 120 on a shift ****. I probably used the extra 94 bucks on fuel, or beer lol!

Sorry for exhuming this thread, I'm actually looking for a good (but cheap) shift **** replacement and stumbled upon this thread. This is exactly the **** I was looking for.
The thing is the link is broken, and I can't find it on ebay or anywhere else. Does anyone know if it's still available ? or what reference it is ?

Also, I'd be glad to have some feedbacks about it after many years of use.

Good old thread. Not sure about the 2nd Gen Eclipse shift **** part number. I bet you could phone a mitsu dealer. Otherwise, you should be able to find plenty used and refurbished FD3S ***** in the FS section, if you post a WTB ad.
