Removed CD player - No Sound

Hey all - searched, and couldn't come up with anything on this one. I thought that I read a while back that if I removed the factory bose CD player in my touring FD that it would kill the sound to the speakers. I searched high and low tonight and can't find that that's the case. I pulled the factory Cd player because it worked about 20% of the time and I needed somewhere to mount the boost controller. The factory head unit still powers up and works, but I get no sound out of the speakers. Just wondering if someone could set me straight. Thanks

Did you install an aftermarket head unit that had a cd player integrated? If you did this, then there is a cause. There are in-line amps in the original bose system that are unpowered by aftermarket stereos. You can fix it though. Check the stickies at the top of this Interior/ Exterior/ Audio board.

I however, am still using the factory head unit, just removed the CD player.

Anybody? I went outside and messed with it this morning a little bit. You hear the "chirp" clearly through the speakers when you change the radio station, and you hear the speakers pop on and off when you turn the unit on and off. However, no sound.

Referencing this fine diagram from a sticky at the top of this forum, I checked out the light green and black wire on the harness, which supposedly powers the amps for the speakers. I unplugged the harness from the head unit and started checking for power with the key "on". The green/black wire did not have any power going to it. So it sort of makes sense that the amps/speakers wouldn't be working. Although I don't know why I'm able to hear a beep when I change the stations. Also, can anyone see any problem with em simply splicing some power to this Light Green/black wire?

Any help would be appreciated. Again - factory bose head unit, with the CD player not hooked up or in the car. Only the head unit.

Thanks!

Anyone? Surely someone has tried using the factory head unit, minus the CD player before...

When you remove the CD-player, you need to install a plug back to where the CD-plug went into, due to the strange internal system of the main unit But basically it just loops the left and right channel out and back inside the main unit. Pics to follow :

if you put in an aftermarket CD stereo, all you have to do is connect the remote turn on lead of the head unit to the pea green wire of the stock connector. That is the turn on wire to turn the factory amps on. Without it, you won't hear anything because the amps don't turn on!

Cool, thanks for the heads up. I was able to read up on that one and get it covered. But I still have the factory head unit, minus CD player. Works like a champ now. I'm selling the car, otherwise I would invest in a new Head unit also.

\\So can one get audio by placing 2 jumper wires or resistors in the pin holes above?

wanted to add the picture of the cd connection above, but couldn't figure out how.

emailed Bob at carstereohelp.com in regards to the attachment. use 2 jumper wires as indicated to run the head unit without the cd player to get sound. thats the cheap bastard method to bypass the cd player without buying a plug adapter.

He also thought that using an Oem mazda 626's headunit as a substitute was a good idea. he's placed bose stereos into other cars and they have been fine.
