My Ebay Halo Headlight Kit Review

This is just a little review on the popular ebay halo lighting kits sold on ebay.. I had ordered a set after one of my covers flew off on the highway.. so i needed something quick..

The quality was very surprising. i was actually expecting to get some real cheaply made stuff but i was rather surprised.. it had the full lighting harness as well as all mounting hardware to boot.. only thing no instructions!

Fitment was going to be the most important thing for me and this kit really fit well no overlapping or miss fitting parts.. everything also lined up properly.

A upgraded the bulbs to sylvania silverstar ultras and shit what a diffrence it made!

I drove around and i for some odd reason people are MORE attracted to the car asking if its some new vehicle or something.. my FD gets a shit load of attention before but now i notice people asking more and more questions about it..i know some people dont like these lights but i can honestly say im very happy with them.. i will be posting some pics soon for those who are thinking of putting them on.

Stage7 07-09-08 12:56 PM

Thanks for the writeup. Can you post some pics?

i believe so..pics are coming guys..i want to wash and wax my car.. so look out this weekend.. i only posted this for a possible alternative to buying the more expensive brands which are 400-up..If you dont have anything positive to say than please dont post. in general people around here where i live Long island ny tend to ask what type of car it is.. seems like it changes the look of the car and makes in more modern..im actually going to see if i can get it painted to match my car even though my car is black..

ZION76 07-10-08 05:50 AM

oops sorry for the second post but the i chose NOT to hook up the halo lights..

muibubbles 07-10-08 07:39 AM

can you post a link or ebay pictures so we know which ones youre talking about?

See comments like this is what makes big problems on this forum. Again i posted this for the people that didnt want to spend the 400- 1000 on a sleek headlight kit and wanted a cheaper alternative.. It was a write up on the quality and fitment and most importantly the upgrade on the Dim stock original FD headlights.. I didnt ask for your bullshit opinion..You dont like them thats great but please if you have nothing to add to this forum than stay the hell off my thread..

It definately gets old listening to some of the people who "know" everything on here doesn't it. The lights look good to me.

Whats wrong with the stock headlight assembly again? HID retro.......done

Miata_mx5 07-22-08 12:03 AM

^ He wanted something that looked JDM.

y0.

ZION76 07-22-08 10:15 AM

stock headlight lids both were cracked and one flew off on the highway.and i wanted improved lighting which i achieved with this kit. no JDM look as someone said.

Miata_mx5 07-22-08 10:19 AM

last time when a friend had his headlight cover fly off, it costed 50 bucks for a pre-owned replacement, and 20 bucks to fix and paint each. so total of 90 dollars to replace, and fix and paint both. I sanded and buffed them so it looked good and even with the existing BB paint.

so 90 bucks and a HID Conversion/Retrofit (w/e that costs) vs making your FD look like a squid.

Nice choice sir. I envy you, your car is so JDM.

Scrub 07-22-08 10:23 AM

bro seriously if you dont have anything to say or to add to this thread than simply dont reply.. i could care less for peoples opinion on the matter.. it wasnt a thread asking what people thought about the headlights,it was a write up on how the fitment and actual lighting output of the kit..after getting a few email of people that were interested in how the fitment was and a few people wanted me to post pics so thats excatly what i did.. simple..dude you dont even have a friggen FD to even comment on the matter.. stick with your FC and keep your retarded comments to yourself.!jeez!

Rookie84 07-24-08 01:53 PM

I agree with ZION76. I hate the look of these headlights with passion as well but you guys need to stop with the comments on how it looks, as he was just writing a review on the quality of the headlights. If you don't like it, move on. No need to get on his ass about how bad these look. It's his car, so he can do whatever he pleases with them. I know it's a public forum and can understand a few comments, but it annoys me when people behave like 5 year olds and ruin a thread. ZION76 posted that he was just giving a review on people's requests, so let's just leave it at that. He clearly asked everyone to stop posting their bad opinions on these lights. No need to try to redicule him for that.

moosejaw 07-27-08 10:03 AM

good post above
not my taste, but you accomplished what you wanted to do within a reasonable budget and provided a nice review to boot!

joshs_87 07-27-08 11:36 PM

I had those lights on my old rx7 I liked them

danameisoj 08-04-08 11:01 AM

i put these lights on my last fd as a temp till i went with sleeks.

they were quite a bit better in visibilty at night.

I am also one of those that thinks they look terrible . but they are more functional than the stockers.

7syawedis 08-04-08 11:42 AM

they usually look like shit but its looks ok on a black car. the only problem ive ever had is they stick up to high :dunno: that and i almost always try not to cheap out. but keep an eye out if i post MY ebay hedlight mod. i will get way more hate than this one im thinking but i as well have better lighting and its different and i kept my poppies. and i think i spent like 30 bucks

muibubbles 08-04-08 05:36 PM

can you post pics with the lights off? and if i read correctly you said you didnt install the halos? also is it painted or it came like that?

I bought these headlights too - much cheaper than the sleek kits, which yes, do look nicer. However, for the increased ability to see at night, I'm happy.

I wired the Halo lights in to my fog light switch. They are just for show.

Haven't replaced the bulbs with brighter ones, but the eBay bulbs are still a huge difference over the 90's flip-ups.

heidihi 08-05-08 11:23 AM

my buddy here near me, got these lights we instaled them in his car and he loves the look of um and a lot of people tend to like the look also.. we changed the bulbs to 100w 6000K temp bulbs and used a relay to help the extra power demand and let me tell ya! if you cant see at night with his car than your just blind.. I bet he has more lighting power than a new caddy! and if you still need more add foglights or go to HID all around.

phrost 08-13-09 09:21 PM

awesome looking man, ive been looking for a while to buy a headlight conversion kit for my seven, since my drivers side headlight cover flew off while rippin' a z06 ;)
and with ur write up im def ready to buy a pair.

purerx7 08-13-09 09:26 PM

I lol'ed pretty hard at some of the comments in this thread. Those head lights aren't my cup of tea, but different strokes for different folks. Either way, nice review, forum needs more people posting reviews/tutorials/how-to's.

gnictry 08-24-09 11:37 AM

here is my album...me and my bf have these lights...agree that quality good and cheap altn.

JamesVaughn3rd 08-24-09 01:51 PM

I'm not a huge fan of them, but they look fine. I'm glad you like them and that it was a good deal.

Some of the people on this board are funny, they don't want other people to copy their look, but they hate on everything that isn't their look. Apparently you're only allowed to buy $600+ bumpers and $900+ dollar hoods. Otherwise it's junk.

rx7rcer09 08-24-09 03:24 PM

there okay.

Kriss 08-25-09 03:23 AM

Anyone have tried to use the projectors of this kit to make a sleepy eyes headlight? cold be cool with the 2 halo rings... That's what I have in mind for my 7... ;)

Gringo Grande 08-22-10 11:20 PM

I just purchased a car that has these currently installed. Quality is good, light output is very good...will I keep them forever? Nope...but for a couple months I don't find them too horrid and can see how they grow on some people.

Got any pics of the actual lighting output of the kit? The beam pattern at night?

These came on my FD when I purchased it. I'm really not a fan of the look whatsoever, but they do do a pretty decent job as far as light output goes.

I really cannot believe that this thread is still going after i created almost 2 years ago.. It still surprises me how childish some people can be! I originally posted this thread just to do a review on the fitment and light output on the ebay halo kit for the FD after i had one of the lids fly off on the highway. And thats all.. But yet still i continued to recieve negative/stupid comments.. Did i ask for opinions? No it was solely for people who wanted a cheaper alternative to spending big money on a sleek head light kit. Being a true enthusiast and owning close to 11 Rx-7's the last being my FD. I thought this forum was a place where serious people can come and appreciate these cars.. I commend all who ever helped out with any problems i had with my car..But the car has long been sold and i upgraded to something when i finally got promoted and had more money comming in. At least on the Lotus forums you have a group of true mature enthusiasts that would do anything to help. 2 weeks ago when i had a slight problem with my car and i posted it on the lotus forum, one guy actually drove from NJ to come out to see the car and didnt want a dime or gas or tolls for his trouble!! Anyway guys best of luck.. Will i return to RX-7? maybe in the future when the NEW Rx-7 Comes out but till than ill enjoy my Lotus.

You didn't ask for advice on how to fix your car, you posted a pic of your FD with those eBay lights on it. Do that, and you're gonna get flamed everytime. Don't take it so personally.
http://cdn3.knowyourmeme.com/i/9987/...jpg?1250726872

BTW: We never DID get a pic of the actual beam pattern and lighting output of the kit...Like you said this thread was created for in the 1st place.

Hahaha! I totally agree with wat you say! At least, people on this club are not all like that. Nice lotus BTW.

staticguitar313 08-29-10 05:58 PM

your posting pictures of the lights themselves but not the pattern they throw at night, which is what truly matters. In my opinion nothing looks better than stock flip ups except for FEED's TVR Cerbera inspired front. The sleek beautiful lines of the car are completely interrupted by those things, and that not an opinion its a fact. Do what you want with your car. If it makes you happy then whatever, shoot jizz in the eyes of your enemies.

93rx74lyfe 08-30-10 07:26 AM

You call that old Lotus an "upgrade"?
