The SuperNova SMT 5x does not fit in the front running lights.

The 5 LED SMT Tower works very well.

Forgive me, but which ones am I supposed to use for my (194) tag lights and (194) 99 spec running light? Their parts description, numbers and website in general leave a lot to be desired.

For the tag lights: In your cart they are listed as SMT Tower, it's the first bulb on top of the 194 page. FYI it apparently matters which way the bulbs are oriented in the socket. If you find they don't light at first then turn them around. The service from this site was top notch, and you can pay with paypal.

I am unaware about the 99 spec runners, I'm s6 4 lyfe, yo.

99 spec running lights are the same as the 94-96 lights. The turn signals are different. Here is a list:

Do they still twist in properly with this mod?

I just fitted these 921 Matrix bulbs in my center tail light. They twist in properly. They are well retained. They are bright.

^^Third bulb down on this page^^

Take a box cutter and clip the corners of the retaining tabs to increase clearance for the square bulb, as shown.
Make sure to have someone verify that all bulbs are turning on before you bolt the light assembly back down. You have to fiddle with the leads until they establish a circuit.
One pic shows before and after side by side. One shows the bulb and a modified housing. Another shows a Random Rolls parked next to my FD in my town.

Has anyone ran into problems of the quality of the bulbs? I know this isn't a huge mod, but it can get costly.... Would this be something at the bottom of the list for a car?

Ok guys, I'm looking to make the LED jump soon and tried going through the entire thread and take into account all the revisions to compile the "latest" list of tested LEDs. Well, I've had mine installed for several years and have had one bulb go out, one of the license plate ones. Just did an inventory a few days ago and spotted it.

I'd say the quality is just fine and it would be at the top of my list but I am a bit of an LED freak.

The list looks pretty complete to me at first pass.

Superlumination just came out with a better 1156/1157 bulb:

12 Watt Eagle EYE SMT Tower
4x 3 Watt-3 Chip High Powered Rectangular Chip SMT LEDS
These Bulbs have Advanced Surface Mount Technology LEDS + Advanced Patented Circuitry
3 high powered SMT side facing LEDS - 1 high powered SMT forward facing LED With Optical Lens
Only 18mm diameter x 59mm overall - fits all stock housings

Fully Regulated - Proprietary Circuitry. Protected Under (US Patent # 7,345,433)
Don't be fooled by imitations, these are not available anywhere else!

$29.99 Ea.

As these are even brighter and have an optical lens (better light distribution) I'd go with these for the rear turn (1156) and brakes (1157).

lever2000 03-12-12 03:15 PM

Sweet!! I wanna change my dash lights to red LED however, I don't know the bulb size. Anyone know the 87 RX bulb size for the dash lights? I'm thinking of getting them off of SuperbrightLED.com

Spec.Garage 03-18-12 05:44 PM

Why is everyone listing the reverse lights as 1157. n 1157 is a dual filiment bulb. The reverse lights should be 1156.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

David Hayes 03-20-12 08:00 AM

^You are correct, they are 1156 bulbs. The Sylvania bulb finder app lists both which is most likely why they got on the list that way. The 1156s will work fine and no need for a dual filament bulb.

Renesis-7 04-17-12 07:41 AM

Has anyone tried this site? http://www.clearcorners.com/products/mazda/fd/

These two are pretty interesting (and pricey):
http://www.clearcorners.com/products/mazda/fd/i_map/
http://www.clearcorners.com/products/mazda/fd/r_3br/

But, they need your actual housing to rewire and suit the new LED strip (brake light) or a different socket type? (map lights).

Better yet, anyone with electrical know-how able to do this yourself? The two colour door/map light seems like a good idea.

Renesis-7 04-29-12 10:08 PM

Thanks to all who contributed to the thread. Just finished putting in LEDs pretty much everywhere. Modding the flasher CPU as per Dale Clark worked great. Centre brake lights with the 921 Matrix bulbs work very well. A bit of trimming is required as said before. I preferred the use of a file to gradually trim away the corners.

One question though... my glove box light LED didn't fit. I ordered the same "WLED-xHP5 Wedge Base Bulb" as used in the rear side markers, map lights and license plate lights. The bulb in my glove compartment was smaller than those other lights. Anyone else have issues with the glove box light? Which LED did you use?

mikejokich 03-14-18 10:49 PM

Newer LED's

Was reading this older thread about LED taillight bulbs. Back then, everyone in the thread were recommending the 7 watt Eagle EYE and later the 12 watt Eagle EYE bulbs. Now, Superluminations has these same bulbs that are also 14 watt, 24 watt, 50 watt and even 80 watt. Has anyone used these higher wattage bulbs? Are they too bright? What do you think is the ideal wattage for 99" spec rounded taillights?
Thanks
Mike

mikejokich 03-20-18 02:04 PM

Anybody use anything higher than a 12 watt LED bulb in the rear 99' spec taillights?

anh_cloud9 05-16-19 04:56 PM

sorry for bumping this, but interested in the question above... more than likely won't run anything past 12W tho
