Here are my first fitment pictures of the JF Racing 99 plateless urethane bumper I bought on ebay. If I remember right total price was 275 with shipping. Again I haven't tweeked anything yet so there are some slight gaps. But overall fitment is very good. There is very little droop at the headlights. I will be fixing that with some expanding foam soon. Sorry I didn't have the headlight covers on, but putting the bumper on is alot easier without the headlight covers in. There will be some filling necessary because of some pin holes. The urethane is much thicker than the stock bumper.

I really like your bumper, but you state that it is Urethane and when I looked on line it says it's made out of some kind of Fiberglass blend. Which is it? Is is shapeable or can it be shaved to fit better? Also you stated it is a lot thicker is it a lot heavier? lastly, is it an exact replica of the 99 JDM bumper sans plate holder? Appreciate the response.

 

The bumper I have is urethane. No fiberglass durable or otherwise. It is definetly thicker and a little heavier. Which I believe is actually a good thing considering my stocker had a problem with drooping. I can most likely clean most of fitment issues with a little work. My uncle will be doing the body work and will be using a urethane filler on it and shaving it down if necessary. I it is a 99 replica, the lip is the stock 99 spec lip I bought from mazda motorsports and it fits well so they made a good copy sans plate.

thanks for the feedback. I will call JF. I did want to compare theirs to Rotary Extremes version...but I have heard his was not fitting all that well. Did you check his out by any chance. I'm mostly concerned about the fitment.

The JF bumper is the SAME BUMPER offered by Rotary extreme! Except they are selling it for $245 and Chuck is selling it for $645! Both pictures are the same at the sellers corresponding website! Maybe that will clear things up

Unfortunately, that's incorrect. Urethane, rubber, and other such materials droop and develop waves w/ age and heat. Fiberglass doesn't. It'll maintain it's fitment the best, but it gives very little making it fragile. It's a no-win situation with both, which is why I'm a huge fan of the urethane/glass blends such as VIS Racing's polyfiber.

hey FD Newbie I do agree with the no win situation regarding FRG and Urethane and polyfiber sounds good but who else is doing an exact copy of a JDM front bumper? Also, I hear VIS quality in fit, finish, and material is very poor. What is your experience with them?

Actually I was not talking about the fiberglass not being durable. I was answering the other post asking what material it was. If you have seen some of my other threads in this section, I will be using expanding foam over the stock rebar to help keep its shape.

 

You've gotta lower the headlights with the covers on to have any real sense... but it does appear to fit better than my RE does.

 

Should have pictures of that this weekend. Help others get an idea of what their getting into with this bumper. It does not seem to have the same passenger side hood/bumper/light intersection problem the RE bumper has/had. So I would not think its the same as the RE. I could find a distinct flashing/molding mark on the back side and could compare it to the RE one to make sure though. Otherwise that would be one hell of a mark up.

 

Anyone willing to help by taking a look at the part/mold marks on the back of their RE Plateless 99 bumper?

 

The only reason I think both bumpers are the same:
1) Both pictures at each corresponding web site are the same picture, you can tell by the car and the buildings.
2) I talked to James at JF and he said he does not make these bumpers that he gets them from an outside source.
Got to make you wonder?

Yah I think the RE and JF racing ones are the same. JF probably got ahold of RE's and started making their own.

The fitment on that bumper is about the same as my RE anyway.

 

I'm not sure who you heard that info from re: VIS fitment and quality. Do a search on VIS, filter by my username, and you'll see a trend. Virtually EVERYONE who compalined about VIS fitment had bought it from a secondary source (like Ebay), instead of directly from VIS. I'm running a front bumper, rear bumper, sideskirts, and hood from VIS, all in polyfiber, and I can tell you that fitment was excellent, and durability/quality wise, NOTHING beats polyfiber. NOTHING.

fiberglass bumpers will deform as well, print through will happen especially on a darker color

 

I have the exact same stamp with the "offroad use only". So it looks as if the JF Racing and the Rotary Extreme are indeed the same bumper. Jeez just think about the money RE is making on these bumpers. You know JF Racing is making money on the bumpers.

That's how business is done. Minimize your cost, while maximizing your profit. Just b/c you can get something cheap doesn't mean you should sell it for cheap. You sell it at what the market will bare. Take Nike shoes, for instance. Workers in Indonesia get paid approx. $10 a DAY and produce several shoes a day, each of which sells for over $100.
