I plasti-dipped my FC
I was getting tired of the crappy paint-job the po did since it was flaking and had some rust starting to show up in spots, figured I'd fix it myself until i get a proper paint-job.

cool. wish the pic worked.. ill be dipping my car in the next few weeks..
|
Whoops! Imageshack fails, Let's see if it tinypic works.http://i42.tinypic.com/2nqw58z.jpg

Nice, I was skeptical of plastidip at first but after doing some exterior trim pieces with it on my other car I'm pretty impressed. Its cool how it leaves the original paint/surface un affected when you peel it off.
|
It does leave paint unaffected, though if you have a crappy paint-job that's flaking, as it dries and shrinks, the plasti-dip will lift it up if its by a sharp edge or you peel it off. I have to fix the headlight covers on mine because it lifted the paint (I'll take pictures)

Looks great! Love that stuff
|
http://i43.tinypic.com/n3stqr.jpg here's a shot of the issue i was having with some of the old paint peeling while the dip dried
|
Can you take closer pics of the body?.. It looks awesome!..
|
Sure thing, I'm not actually done though. It took me 6 hours of prepping and painting to get where it's at. Since then the weather has yet to cooperate with the days I have off.
I maybe used 1 1/2 gallons of the premixed plasti-dip from DYC.com out of the 3 gallons I ordered. http://i39.tinypic.com/fa1wr8.jpg http://i42.tinypic.com/wrkrc0.jpg |
Looks great!!!

looks awesome! good work!
|
It does look really good. Nice job.
I will say, with PlastiDip, just make sure you apply a good number of coats. That's how it peels smoothly. I've seen wheels with too few coats ruin finishes underneath. |
great job I'm going to try white plasti dip this weekend I'm excited to see the outcome! But your pics have confirmed me doing mine!
|
How many gallons total do you think it will take to finish the job?
|
The DipYourCar.com website recommends 3 gallons for most cars. They sell full kits w/sprayers and everything for $299. They recommend 5-6 coats.

@ Corifto
No worries, the paint on my car was junk, the only "problem" spot i'm gonna have is the driver side rear quarter where i repaired some rust. @ShenStyles To finish, just 1 1/2 gallons... In total, 3gallons |

They sell prethinned product for normal guns if I recall correctly.
|
Yes, the gallon sizes are pre-thinned and You can use a generic hvlp gun. Dipyourcar.com has a pro-car kit, which has everything you need to paint.
I'll make a video about the "trouble" spots on FC's sometime this weekend. |
That's wsup, I'm lookin forward to seeing this car complete. I wanna see how well this turns out.
|
So i forgot the details for my youtube account. I'll set up a new one when i get home. Would have done it sooner, but I've been installing some "go faster bits" over the past few days
