They raise it pretty high. I'd say very close to - if not the same height - as the stock hoodprop if placed correctly.

As for closing it, resistance is minimal. There's some resistance up top when initially bringing it down IIRC, and as you get close to the bumper (the dampers are retracted) it's minimal. But it's def. enough to raise the hood open by itself if you allow it to. (Tried it on a friend's car)

Oh and re: the thread hijack, in general, it's gonna be hard to top products already offered by one of the most reputable rotary shops hands down. Once I saw the first post, I knew it was only a matter of time before someone brought up Chuck's hood dampers.

Here's the FS thread on S2ki. Both my brother (Hondasr4kids) and I dont have FDs anymore so we can't show you a pic installed yet.

I shipped out 1 set of FD units yesterday. Hopefully I can ask the RX7Club member to post some pictures so that you can see them.

If the only issue of knocking on the setup is because one person had a screw back out... all while admiting to it being his fault. Then I can't really say that its a bad setup.

Yes, the Rotary Extreme bracket is very nice and effective (by having a bracket for two holes), but you can also use LocTite on the bolts to ensure that you will not have issues with the screws backing off.

Also, of note. This Damper can be used on Carbon Fiber hoods or Fiberglass hoods but it is recommended for use on an OEM hood.

This is not for these units alone.

Here's what I got when I called another "popular" manufacturer of hood dampers...

"most carbon fiber hoods are not of good quality and build as people may think...the force of the struts while opening the hood may cause the hood to crack at points of mounting...this applies to closing the hood as well, as there is a bit of initial force needed to close it....testing and fitment of the dampers were performed on OEM hoods, and thus the use of the dampers on carbon fiber hoods is not recommended and is mentioned as a disclaimer to customers...."

Question - probably a stupid one. Why are the hood dampers so long in length? Is it because of a design issue with the RX7 hood? The reason I ask is because I'm very interested but I don't really like how big the struts look. My comparison is my 2003 Range Rover which also uses the struts to hold up the hood. Yet, the struts on my range rover are no more than 12 inches in length and are much more unobtrusive than the ones that I have seen for the RX7. The Range Rover struts also allow for much better access to the engine than the FE struts.

I'm assumining my Range Rover hood is much heavier than the FDs hood so it can't be a weight issue. I have the car in for service today so I can't take a picture. Anyway, food for thought.

Part of the issue is how they attatch. Your Range Rover hood was designed to open with hood dampners and therefore it already has the necesary provisions for the dampers to be installed.

so are there going to be any for the FC?

Not as of this time. I am working to try to get different types made, but they are limited to just a few applications thus far.

However, I do have good news

question... can you open the hood say half way up and will it stay like that or do the dampers push the hood all the way up to almost vertical? I like the how the hood opens almost vertical for working and stuff but sometimes I wouldn't want it to open as high... like when the car needs to be raised on a lift with the hood open.

I can't answer for sure, on the STi it works in some angles, in the S2000 it also works in some angles, but not all.

I have never tried it on the FD.

There's a user here that bought the polished versions.. I PM'd him so ask for his impressions of the kit.
