Diamond cut clear lense

So has anyone ordered these yet? didn't want to post in the old wisesport thread.

i was thinking about trying them out, though i don't think my stock lights are too, too, bad with the new bulbs...

anyway, just wondering if anyone had tried them yet.

Let us know how it goes. :)

WaLieN 03-03-06 01:35 PM

I know I have seen some cheap (<$40) on eBay advertised as a direct fit for FDs, but users found that they were really for FCs. This one seems to look like a FD shaped housing. Let us know how they turn out for you, if you get them.

FDNena 03-03-06 08:08 PM

I already ordered mine and I have been waiting for them to come. I will let you know once I post pics of them with my new HID's. I think Tim Benton also ordered a set. Just look out for my thread on the Kaixen light install.

KaiFD3S 03-04-06 02:33 AM

those actually look like the one they are selling in the group buy section...it will be the quality that will be questioned..

mono4lamar 03-04-06 03:49 AM

interested cuase i was gonna jump in on the group buy... keep us updated! i wanna see how these are.

vspecpgt 03-04-06 08:43 AM

yea they look the same as the wise sports one, but supposedly these are for lhd and are dot certified... so... guess we'll see. i wouldn't think the quality should be too bad, as they are 100 dollars, compared to the other square lights you can get for like 25... we'll see though.

I bought them... if you look at the center shield they look like they are aimed higher on the left than the right. I haven't install them yet.

I saw at least 2 different sellers on ebay...which one did you get yours from neit_jnf?

RotaryResurrection 03-05-06 01:42 AM

I bought a set too. Mine also had one of the center pieces out of alignment...I bent it back to where it looked normal. I installed them along with silverstar bulbs but have yet to aim them or drive the car at night (it isnt a daily driver). So far, just turning them on in the garage, it is a great improvement over the stock faded translucent plastic lense and regular bulbs.

I have the same type in my denali and they performed about the same as stock lenses...but the stock lenses in it before were not nearly so faded as the ones in the RX7s usually are so it's not like I'd notice a difference anyway.

neit_jnf 03-05-06 11:08 AM

both my center pieces are perfectly aligned but aimed for rhd, the seller is autodynasty

Hey Harrison. I appreciate that :) Small things like that (common courtesy) go a long way ;)

:werd:

Some people prefer brand name items..to each his own. I don't know why people make a stink about it, just don't buy it if you don't want to spend the money.

Anyways, I hope mine come in soon. BTW for those of you who have them already these are plastic and not glass correct?!

neit_jnf 03-05-06 06:08 PM

plastic, complete with rubber vent tubes and bulb cover

audiobot7 03-05-06 07:02 PM

Really? It says crystal glass on the ebay title, that sucks.

sevensix 03-05-06 07:13 PM

yeah it does say glass... lol.

out of courtesy to the wisesport thread i decided to not mention these ever on the forums again haha.

btw question about stock fd headlamps.. is the poor lighting caused by badly designed reflectors/lenses or by the aging/scratching of lenses?

mono4lamar 03-05-06 08:01 PM

so yeah these are glass right?

neit_jnf 03-05-06 08:26 PM

PLASTIC

my stock ones are plastic as well, what's so bad about it? Most new cars come with clear plastic headlights now

Wankel7 03-05-06 08:57 PM

Wow, that is some craptastic light housings:)

Not sure what size your bulb housings are but I know the FC ones are 200MM

http://www.rallylights.com/hella/headlamps.asp

And you get a choice of DOT or ECE code housings:)

Yeah but we would have the same problem as the other ebay ones....no mounting points.

I have a set of those FC ones that I am just willing to give away. I have no use for them.

Too bad they aren't glass but I was 99% sure they were not just by looking at the pics. I think the yellowing lenses is a big problem but not entirely the only problem. The light output just sucks. The new HID's I have make a huge difference. I want to compare what my light pattern will be with and without these reflectors.

You're 100% right, it is a personal preference. I'm not into overpaying for things, but for the most part, I believe you get what you pay for, which is why I'd rather stick w/ a larger well-known brand, despite it being more expensive. Larger names have a reputation to worry about, and thus gotta make sure their products work (in accordance w/ their claims) and are free from defects. That's why I pay the extra $$. But that's just me.

Oh c'mon man. I'm not for censoring ppl (within limits, of course...we've had some serious troublemakers in the past LOL). But I just didn't feel like dealing w/ OTHER ppl's parts on a GB I'm trying to put together, that's all. Heck, I'm very curious to see how these lenses work out (the ebay ones), and I hope everyone's happy w/ them. I just didn't wanna take the chance myself.

Uhh, I think it's cuz Mazda cut corners to minimize cost whenever and wherever possible. Amazing chassis and drivetrain (for the purpose it was built for...NOT drag racing), but along the lines you got shafted w/ cheap not-so-essential parts haha. But yea, I'm sure the 12 year old thing plays a factor in pretty much EVERYTHING on this car nowadays ;)

From what I was reading on the website it seemed like the DOT ones had mounting points?

KaiFD3S 03-05-06 11:01 PM

I had the glass ones before on my FC and they sucked since they cracked so easily...

FDNewbie 03-05-06 11:17 PM

Kai, were they plastic or glass? Oh and if anyone's reall worried about their lenses, you can always have them 3M coated (100% clear), and it's guaranteed to prevent the housings/lenses it covers from cracking from rocks hitting it etc.

neit_jnf 03-06-06 05:40 PM

Ok !!

Ok people I installed them! Perfect fit, they snap right in place. The bulbs ar at a slightly different angle than the stockers; I haven't seen the light pattern well because it's daylight but a quick check on my garage door shows them aimed higher at the driver side which doesn't surprise me at all.

neit_jnf 03-06-06 05:46 PM

I'm very happy with the results!!

FDNena 03-06-06 05:56 PM

Wow...they do look a lot better. Can you just aim the driver's side down a bit by adjusting the screws? Also what are you using for bulbs? It would be nice to see the new beam once it gets dark if you get a chance.

RXJJang 03-06-06 06:08 PM

I just got mine from ebay the other day and I will post results after I install them. It looks like the group buyers paid a premium for the same thing.

H4 Silverstars, pics are low beam, high beam, and overexposed high beam for fun

I suppose the driver side can be aimed lower to compensate but I don't think it's too bad. I'll have to drive on some really dark streets to check lighting and maybe play with aiming some other time

jpandes 03-06-06 07:22 PM

I can't tell, is the beam pattern that much better than the OEM light housing? Does anyone have a side by side comparison? Yeah, I know, I'm being high-maintenance...

neit_jnf 03-06-06 08:16 PM

the stockers aren't as bright and the pattern is exactly the same but reversed; the light angles upwards toward the passenger side in low beam, but look the same in high beam

reza 03-07-06 06:45 PM

Aha...so these things are the same as the Wise Sport ones. Gotta get one of these then.
Quality will be the same I think.

Reza

robperri 03-07-06 07:23 PM

I'm pleased with mine too. I think it updates the look. I put Silverstar bulbs in them and it's way brighter then the yellow stock lights.

RX7 RAGE 03-07-06 07:33 PM

nice, hopefully this will improve my HID beam pattern

audiobot7 03-07-06 09:25 PM

Looks a lot better, so many options now, but i still like the sleepy.

Sabre002 03-07-06 11:17 PM

I'm getting the one off Ebay here and putting the Hid kit in there after some time. I'm sure it can't be worse then my MG.

reza 03-10-06 06:14 PM

Got mine...then I had my friend in Japan check the Wise Sports headlight on the spot.
I sent him photos of the one I got from ebay...
Exactly the same....all those guys on group buys are screwed...
Well ebay screwed me with $100 plus tax plus $30 shipping. Overcharged on shipping definitely from dynasty auto. LA to San Jose should not cost $30.

I guess I'll need a cigarette after I get mine from the group buy :) since I'm staying in it anyway.

I guess everyone's entitled to their opinion Reza. I don't particularly appreciate the comment, esp. since it's insinuating that I helped screw everyone over. Some of us just feel more comfortable with paying a bit more for the quality and worksmanship practically guaranteed by larger, more well known companies.

There's the Ebay camp, who loves Ebay strut bars, torque braces, ICs, and manifolds...and there's the Name Brand camp who has no prob spending the extra $$, given they won't have to worry about fitment, performance, longevity, and say, in this case, housings melting. I mean hey, the last time I heard someone say the same thing you said (hey, I got this for half the price from Ebay...all you guys got jibbed!), he posted a few weeks later that his Makita/Pro Car Parts/ie from Ebay 99spec combo lights melted... ;)

~Ramy

PS: FYI, pics can be as informative as they are deceiving. Just b/c something LOOKS the same doesn't mean it is. And comparing housings by the LOOK of them isn't exactly what I'd say qualifies as an in-depth comparison & analysis :)

RX7 RAGE 03-10-06 07:42 PM

Good post Ramy. There's just some things that I wouldn't buy for my FD on ebay. :)

robperri 03-10-06 08:50 PM

Close up of stamp on Ebay light in case anybody wants to compare.

Well...the description is off...but it's listed properly under Mazda lighting. I suppose you can get them from here if you don't want to deal with eBay.

I wonder a right side angle-up version exists?

reza 03-11-06 02:35 PM

FD Newbie, its not opinion, rather fact since I have the product from ebay and send photo to my friend in Japan to check it out.
And this is the first brand new parts I got from ebay. Usually I buy all branded stuff e.g. Greddy, HKS, Apexi,....I don't think Wise is that branded brand anyway...

The one I got is left side angled up. I have put one on left and stock one on right with the same bulb, the beam looks like this now... \ / hahaha
I still have to take picture for comparison. Its not that much brighter. I think my bulb is about to go out, its at least been in the car for 5 years.
I am sure the HID ones would be much better.

I think the angle could be adjusted by having a different lens cap angle. This lens cap is the metal that cover the bulb inside the housing. It is somewhat rotate a little if you look from behind, and it is removable, so I will try it out later when its dark outside and not raining.

But hey, it's cool man. I'm not out to fight. Just careful w/ what you insinuate. No need to step on anyone's toes :)

Reza, what do you mean by "exactly" the same? Are you judging based on pictures? or do they have the same part number? Anyone know the part number on the wise sports and the ebay replicas?

California Dreaming 03-12-06 11:58 AM

So for the guys who installed them already, where the lenses glass or plastic?
