Go to norotors forum and look in the build thread that halfspec has going on. It is tittle Mississippi FD something. Lane is a pretty cool guy and will answer all the question you may have. His car build is amazing too. Very detailed and a lot of attention to details.

Wow, just read through his thread. Lane is pretty impressive. Alot of money, effort, time and thinking behind everything he's done. Awesome planning and great execution!

I mounted two gauges just like Gordon did.

So my fuel gauge took a dump on me yesterday and I'm not going through the process of gutting a new one so I can prevent this from happening again. I ordered a new fuel gauges from Summit. Wish would have seen this before because I think it looks better than the Auto Meter one.

So I have 4 options

1. Get a Miata single din radio and put 2 gauges under the radio. My second gauge would be a Volt gauge.

2. Get a Miata single din radio and a R1 pocket and have the gauge mounted behind it out of site

3. Just put the gauge in the glove box and keep my Miata double din radio.

4. Do the same thing I did with the Auto Meter gauge and put it in the same place. Really don't want to do this one.

I will not relocate my AC controls. One of the things I love about the interior about this car is that.

A volt gauge and what else?

Honestly, I would just put those in the glove box, and then go with a nice double-din CD/DVD/Navigation unit.

I recommend Kenwood.

But if that isn't what you want...I would go with a single-din radio of your choosing, and then a pocket underneath to hold whatever.

I don't like aftermarket radio, specially ones with big screens. They attract attention. I like my OEM look. I have an AUX input so I can hook up my phone to it.

Awesome work, been following this quietly. Probably not something you want to hear, but why not put the fuel gauge back in it's stock location and have the turbo gauge elsewhere, like the pillar mount in Yoshi's pic? I know you're looking for a clean look, but it's such a small little sacrifice. Are you thinking of keeping the fuel gauge inside the glovebox or mounting on it?

I mean...you won't be doing much boosting if you forget to check your fuel gauge and run out of gas! :lol:

I may be doing this as my speedometer just took a crap on me. :mad: I'm still in diag mode right now. Also when you lose speedometer, you lose cruise control. I don't wanna install the gps speed gauge if I can't find a way to get the cruise to work with it.

I bet I know how to make it work. The speedo get its signal straight from the speed sensor then to everything else. If that signal could be changed from going to the speed, to the cruise control brain, I bet it will work. It doesn't right now because to the cruise control, the car isn't moving.

I took the cluster apart tonight and was able to remove the Auto Meter fuel gauge. the glue I used was a BITCH to get anything off but the dremel is a wonderful thing. Beside I think living the old gauge there was going to look odd. What I'm going to do it put the whole gauge there without gutting it.

I think that IS one of the reasons I like my Kenwood unit though. Even the trim around it matches the FD's, and in a way, it kind of "modernizes" the interior, which is really part of my overall theme....Hopefully some dark tint and an expensive Viper alarm will be enough to keep it IN the car. lol :P

My thought would be to invest in a center speaker pod. I think the pod looks like it belongs there. With the pod you can put the fuel gauge in the stock location, the boost gauge in the stock oil pressure location, and relocate the oil pressure gauge to the center speaker pod, with one or two of it's buddies.

I've really only worried about stereo's attracting attention in convertibles, but suppose I live in a fairly safe neighborhood. (and when not, simply take my radio faces with me) That said, the only factory head units I've heard that had the sound quality of a decent, aftermarket example, were in some rather recent & expensive cars.. or in other words, nothing I ever plan to own. :p: How's the NB unit sound hondasr4kids & does it match your other interior lighting well? That was one reason I leaned towards Kenwood waay back, because they were one of the first retailers of somewhat higher end gear I found, with button color options.. then I just got used to their menu layouts etc.

The radio looked awesome at night til for some reason the lighting quit working but what can I say, I only paid $30 for it. I have hoked up to an amp powering all my speakers. I need a sub but that is not my priority right now.

I wanted a near-stock look, didn't want to spend a fortune and this unit allows you to match any color interior lighting perfectly (amber, red, orange, etc.).

Please keep us updated on that if you can get it working with the new gauge. Driving 2,500 miles round trip to Sevenstock would be a bitch. :mad:

Well I can't do it on my car. I have an R1=no cruise control.

If I'm reading the first attached document out of the FSM when it describe the functions of the components of the cruise control, it should work if the 2 wires (3A to 3E) are spliced together (2nd attachment). Actually I'm going to test this because that same wire send the speed signal to the ECU. If I can get a reading on the PFC monitor (which right now I don't) then my theory is should be correct.

I would not send the speed signal around the speedometer you could damage something. The speedometer converts the signal from AC to a pulsed square wave and also down converts it to half the frequency.

okay got an idea how I can make it work. On my cluster I retained the rear PCB so my warning lights and turn signals will still function. , so I still hook up the four rear plugs. By removing the dial and face off the speedometer to make it more compact. Then connecting and stowing it behind the cluster unit while it is hooked up

Gauges are back in. I put the Summit Racing gauge where the Auto Meter one was at. Turn out that their unit is shallower than the Auto Meter one and it fit fine with some minor trimming. Here is a picture of them in the car with the new steering wheel. Don't mind the dirty interior.

Well looks like I'm good to go on the cruise. It turns out the gear on the speed sensor has come off and sitting in the bottom of the tranny. Good thing I had a spare speed sensor. Now I need to get the engine back in the car to make sure it works. :)
